How does Kevin know precisely when to stage a party?

The 'party' begins before Harry and Marv drive to the McCallister home. Surely Kevin does not play that game in uncomfortable positions for hours while waiting for the burglars. How does he know the minute that the intruders will come to his house, or that they are there at all? The boy is not looking in the direction of the window, which is covered with curtains anyway, when the van pulls up, and that would not be heard over the blasting music. Still, Kevin somehow knows that Harry and Marv are watching him and even the moment that it's safe to open the curtains.

Yeah, it always bothered me as well. I just let it to the factor that it's "movie magic" just like many other scenes in that movie.

Didn't Kevin say something like, "When those guys come back I'll be ready." He probably assumed they would come back that night because they are robbers after all.

Yes, MinorityRules15, but that does not explain how Kevin perfectly times everything in the scene.
