What were your opinions on the finale?
I thought as a whole the finale was disappointing and didn't like how it ended, the only good moments was seeing a bunch of one time characters reappear in the show.

shareI thought it was brilliant. I never understood the hate.
shareHorrible. I've only seen it once.
shareI only got into Seinfeld after it was wrapped up. While it was running I only caught a handful of episodes. One of them happened to be the finale and I thought it was pretty funny. Obviously, I didn't appreciate all the returning cameos, but the gall to end a show like that? I was impressed and thought that was a scream.
Of course, if I cast myself in the role of a dedicated fan, I understand why they'd be peeved over it. First, because that ending is such a sidewinder, but also because the episode wasn't quite in sync with the rest of the show's "flavour". I saw an interview with the cast where Larry David (I think it was David) expressed that the problem with the finale was that it was "big" and the show was always about minutiae and over-analysis of tiny, nit-picking problems. I understand this completely and I think that would have been more "respectful", if that applies, and would have pleased fans more. It certainly would have locked in to the other episodes in the show.
But, looking back at it and while re-watching the series two or three times over, I've gotta say: I still think that ending's brilliant. It's such a doozy! How could you not admire the cajones it took to create that and go, "Yup: this is how it ends!" The joke is on the show itself at the fall of the curtain, and that's kinda magnificent. It's also pretty "Seinfeld".
The fate of the four main characters was fine but the execution was bad.
shareI hate it. But I only enjoy the early seasons anyway.
shareVery good. Original. I've seen it many times.
Saw it live the night it aired.
I thought the idea was novel but the execution of the story line was missing something that was suppose to give it closure. Instead, they just did a retread with some of the various memorable characters from their most popular episodes.
Larry David and Jerry should have just thrown caution into the wind and done something from left field like M*A*S*H and Bob Newhart did with their series finales.
Part One of the two-part finale was a pretty good episode, but Part Two fell apart into absurdity and just got grim and creepy, not funny. Some people find the characters despicable and enjoyed seeing them go to jail, but I had come to enjoy spending time with them every week for eight years and didn't want to think of them in that situation. It was an unsatisfying end and I just don't watch that last episode anymore.
shareWell part of it is they made Jerry and his friends evil in the finale (laughing and filming the guy getting mugged). If the scene was true to the series, they would be watching the guy getting mugged, intending to help but fumbling over what to do.
They were always selfish and petty but never EVIL. It was really forced and missed the mark entirely.
I don't think it was evil. The guy got mugged what is anyone suppose to do, if the guy is not willing to defend himself against a mugger then why should anyone else defend him against a mugger? And today filming muggings and beatings and robbery is a common occurrence.
I think the whole thing was like a seinfelds rerun episode and those things always suck.
Well I wouldn't expect them to tackle the mugger, but they could have at least called for help instead of laughing at the guy. Throughout the series we saw minor quirks in people that others find irritating. Things that most of us had experienced and can relate to (like someone double dipping a chip).
We also saw Kramer nearly get mugged until an undercover cop came to the rescue causing the audience to cheer. Then Kramer would do this in the last episode? They went from being petty and selfish to an absolute waste of space.
