Let's make a list of every movie a retro gamer should watch

So far, I think all retro gamers should have watched:
The Wizard (of course)
Super Mario Bros.

Anyone else like to add one?

How about Double Dragon or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Or Wargames.

reply

Good calls so far... I'll add the 1983 movie Joysticks
to that list.

Who can never forget "TRON"?

Tron

The guy gets stuck in a computer....

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Robocop
WarGames
GI Joe: The MOvie

While 2 of them have had video game related titles, I'm trying to capture the times. GI Joe, as a TV series, was a kid's wet dream (along with Transformers). If you watched GI Joe, chances are you had a score of video games.

"Tell me, Mr. Anderson, what good is a phone call, if you are unable to speak?" - Agent Smith

reply

Wait... GI Joe's gave you wet dreams?
that's kinda weird.

Oh yeah, and Super Mario Bros. (the movie) with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo. I still love that movie. I wish they would have done some of the characters differently, like the goombas, but Dennis Hopper was good as Koopa.

reply

War Games, I think it's called, where some kid and his girlfriend hack into the Pentagon using their dial up modem, and then play missle command or whatever using real missles! It was fun.

I don't remember much, though.

reply

Yeah Tommy's the first thing I thought of when I heard about this movie. Everyone needs to see Tommy.

Sign upon the bloody line, drop of yours, drop of mine... nothing's free.

reply

You called it retro gaming. That makes me feel so old.

reply

Since they have not been mentioned yet:

Evolver: virtual reality game movie!!

A kid named Kyle wins a real-life robot of the virtual reality game he won a big contest for. The robot is not playing for fun. He is playing for keeps!!

Kyle joins up with my most favorite actress ever: Cassidy Rae to beat this thing!

Arcade - video game with a mind of it's own that traps kids in the game with him if the monster in the game can beat the kid when they play along with him in the real world.

Is Lawnmower Man a video game movie?? Have not seen it...

Look both movies up on here!

What are the purposes of signatures!!..

reply

No, Lawnmower Man is a shabby film made to cash in on the then-amazing idea of the world of Virtual Reality. It was (very very very) loosely based on a Stephen King short story, and by that I mean pretty much in title only. It turned out to be a naff film, with naff console games based on it. I still liked some of the graphics as a lad, so all that being said, I'm sure game heads can still get something out of it.

A good story well told, however, is not that something.

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

Resident Evil

Cloak & Dagger

reply

Street Fighter, the animated movie

reply

Ah, the best has yet to be spoken for....Cloak & Dagger, the coolest Kid/VG/Espionage movie ever. Reading the title again just brings all the memories back to me. Fear the 3-fingers

reply

The King of Kong

reply

anybody mention the last starfighter?

reply

Nope, definitely need The Last Starfighter on this list..

That movie ******* pwns.

You sir, have failed.

reply

Street Fighter 2 V : The animated series.

Excellent anime (and i dont like most animes, only the high quality ones like Akira, Ninja Scroll, X etc.)

reply

How 'bout RobotJox, that one played out like a video game.

reply

OOO! i loved Evolver, course im a huge trekkie so anythgin with John Delance is great. FearNet.com was offering it as one of their free movies not to long ago if anyone is interested it might still be there:)
(its where i saw it)
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other, and when I am alone I am together.

reply

What about Cloak and Dagger?

reply

Dude! What about Brainscan? That movie was Awesome.

reply

Mortal Kombat, perhaps? haha

reply

VIRTUOSITY!! XD

reply

I can not quite comprehend what is going on here. you are all repeating cloak and dagger and war games like nobody else said it. Someone said Resident Evil. How about these three: (They don't have to be vg movies right, just movies a retro gamer should watch)

1) Tron- It's that simple

2) The Game- If new movies can be on here, like RE The Game needs a place to stay.

Last and not least

3) Hackers- I can't see how anybody didn't think of Hackers or Tron. You all must be going mad, or are little 5 year olds calling kirby's dream land retro gaming. If you weren't born for the release of the NES, you are not a retro gamer.
