Never realized the mountains in the opening scene

Seen this movie I don’t know how many times and never noticed the mountains in the background when they were scouting the family Christmas tree. Now, I know why. Looked at the filming locations on IMDB and apparently, the Griswolds made a 2,000 mile round trip from Chicago to Breckinridge, Colorado to get that tree…lol.

As if that isn’t weird enough, the Walmart scene where Clark tells Eddie he wants to help with his kids having a good Christmas, was filmed in Breckinridge also. Not saying they drove another 2,000 mile round trip just to go to Walmart instead of a local one in Chicago.

I did find that ridiculous, considering Chicago is in a very flat state. Many people don't question it because they don't really think about the mountains in the scenes. The family's antics are somewhat distracting.
