Half of the movie wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Eric coming into Ariel's life.

We saw how Triton threatened him. Poor guy. I would hate to have a boss like that. He should've quit and found a different job, he was pretty talented.
shareYes, but still the destruction of Ariel's secret grotto and Eric's statue was really Sebastian's fault. If he had just kept his mouth shut, Triton wouldn't have destroyed Ariel's secret grotto or Eric's statue.

shareYeah and we also saw how Sebastian watched in horror as Triton destroyed Ariel's collection of human treasures including the statue of Eric knowing he was responsible for the destruction. Sebastian tried to apologize for his actions but a saddened Ariel didn't want to hear it and told him to leave her alone and he also tried to explain to Flounder that he just made a mistake.
shareHe was suppose to be Ariels supervisor. King Triton was his boss. My assumption is that he was scared of being fired or at least Triton being mad at him.

If you watched the Saturday Morning Cartoon about Ariel's life before this film, you would have seen Sebastian putting up with a LOT of shit Ariel pulled in her youth back in the day. I'm amazed the poor crab didn't die of a stroke before Ariel's 16th birthday due to all the stress of his job!

shareOh let's see...from what little I remember includes:
- hiding a baby killer whale in her room and forcing Sebastian to keep it a secret
- screwing around with magic she didn't understand
- forcing Sebastian to take sides in many situations where her actions were against Triton's rules
