Do people actually like this movie? - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) Discussion

I consider it the second best Indy movie, with Raiders #1 and Temple of Doom #3.

When Sean Connery died, I watched a couple of his Bond movies (Goldfinger & You Only Live Twice) and only liked Connery in them, but I also rewatched this and LOVED Connery in this.

Last Crusade has very little of the gravitas of Raiders, but more humour to compensate, but the father/son dynamic between Ford and Connery is what really makes the movie, and they have SUCH chemistry. I also like the bringing back of Brody and Sallah from Raiders, and they all make quite a team, especially the way they ride off into the sunset together.

Wait so you LOVE Connery in Last Crusade but "only liked" him in his most iconic role of all time? Connery was HORRIBLE in this and there was no chemistry between Ford and Connery, those two were painful to listen to. For the record, "capitlisation" is perfectly acceptable in British English, so it's a legitimate alternate spelling (or, arguably, since the UK originated the language, it's the OG spelling).

"Capitalisation" is perfectly acceptable spelling. The Z-variation is preferred in American English, while the S-variation is preferred in British English. You have multiple strange hang-ups, and as usual, you are wrong.

And there is no indication that he doesn't know how to spell "son". I think you might be missing a comma. "Learn to spell, son" - addressing someone you call "son". "Learn to spell son" - telling someone to learn how to spell the word "son". Learn grammar, son.

Ford and Connery looked like they didn’t even want to be there. Look kid, I have seen these two actors in other films, they are far better than the lackluster, soulless performances they gave in Last Crapade. Also it’s as far from an entertaining movie as one can get.

This is my favorite of all the Indy films hands down. Sean Connerys presence added so much and I loved the ending when he tells Indy “Let it go” because he loves his son more than his life long quest.

Aside from Predator and Die Hard I'm not too impressed with McTiernan

I almost considered putting Scott on here as I do like Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator. He has had some stinkers though.

Don't know Tykwer

I only like Top Gun by Tony Scott

I only like Back To The Future by Zemeckis, I HATE HATE HATE Forrest Gump.

Mann is decent, I like Heat

Not a fan of Friedkin, I think the Exorcist is massively overrated.

Don't know much about Anderson and the Coens

Fincher is alright, I like Se7en and Panic Room, didn't care for the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, I think there is a good film somewhere buried beneath Alien 3 and the Assembly Cut is a huge improvement. I don't like Fight Club and the fact that it stars my two least favorite actors ever doesn't help, hugely overrated.

Sallahs gun disappears at the end yet the villains still surrender. If his gun is gone then they wouldn’t have surrendered therefore all four of them would have been executed and the ending wouldn’t have happened

It’s at the very end, Sallah picks up a rifle then tells the Nazis to “drop your guns please”, then there’s a shot of the Nazis surrendering then in the next shot Sallahs weapon is gone. That makes the entire ending impossible

I appreciate your opinion and as I said like or dislike of a film is subjective. I don’t think you are as much of a cinefile as you think you are. I have rated over 3400 films on IMDB. And most of the IMDB top 250. Your lack of knowledge of the directors is a good indication. But I respect your opinion even though I disagree. This is a good film regardless of your plot hole. Every film has them after all.

I like The Dark Knight Rises but it took many viewings before I could fully accept its deficiencies. It has more plot holes than a sieve but I grew to like it. Of course it’s the weakest of the CN trilogy.

This is the most retarded nit pick in cinematic history. Freeze the movie at 1:55:59. It's the scene MovieChatLoser is referring to. Sallah is clearly holding a rifle. This isn't a plot hole it's an extremely mild continuity error. A few seconds prior Sallah has the Nazis at gunpoint, aiming his rifle at them. Then, the next time we see Sallah is at the time I specified above. In that freeze frame you can see Sallah is no longer aiming the rifle, he's just holding it across his body. LMAO Checkmate, MovieChatLoser.
