How the heck would a scorpion get into somebody's backyard anyway? I don't think it's possible, since it's not a common, everyday insect like an ant or a bee.

i always thought it was a suspension of desbelief moment to until one day we found a tiny scorpian in our house, it had crawled in from the back yard and i live in Australia(NSW)

Though since scorpions are creepy and deadly it makes more sense in the movie for them to sneak into the yard at night. Just watched this yesterday, part of it last night, and the whole thing again this morning. A very good, funny family film. They don't make them like this anymore!

I don't remember where specifically, but I remember watching a behind the scenes special back when the movie first came out, and they said that they filmed in Mexico but that had to roll in facades to their set to make it look like a "Southern California neighborhood." And a friend of mine who's lived in SoCal his whole life talked about seeing scorpions outside and inside. And my Aunt and Uncle in AZ have had them in their house occasionally.

The Doctor said that the media has made scorpions much worse then they are. For the most part they are only deadly if your allergic to them. scorpion stings are not any worse then a bee sting really.
Depends on the kind. Fortunately, the one that stung me wasn't so deadly. Though my hand ballooned and throbbed with pain for a week. Most of the pain was within the first hour of the sting though. Agh, those things are nasty.

shareScorpions are totally common in the south/southwest/west. I have seen them quite often when living in Flordia, Texas, Arizona, and California. It just depends where you live. Up north, maybe not, but anywhere more south, definitely.
shareConsidering that scorpions live in hot environments, thats probably true. They aren't all lethal but their stings can make you very ill. The best way to tell is by looking at their claws. If they have big claws and small tails then they're not lethal. (These are perfectly safe to handle - responsibly) Ones with small claws and big tails are far more dangerous.
It must have actually been pretty small if the ant was sizable enough to genuinely challenge it and to fit a claw inside a lego brick without getting it stuck. My guess it was probably either immature or just a very small type of scorpion.
Typically big ones as seen in the media are usually found in deserts, jungles and other places like that. Small versions (That don't grow beyond a few millimetres) can be found in meditteranean countries like Southern France and Italy. These are completely harmless but they HURT!

I found a scorpion in my bathroom. Yes, they do live in common areas.

Although he lives in Phoenix... and the movie was set somewhere northern, you're right, but many people DO deal with many scorpions in their yards...
