He was not a fan of the Tim Burton movie at all.

That's too bad because at that time in 1989, this movie was a Phenomenon and probably moreso than the Nolan movies of today. At the time, no one thought Michael Keaton could pull it off and he did it Masterfully and was a Fantastic and disturbed Bruce Wayne. Best scene right here in any of the BATMAN movies including Nolan's:

I imagine it was pretty 'off putting' for Adam when he thought of all the extra money Michael would be making off playing Batman
shareAs much as the Adam West series/movie will always have a place in my heart, I know which version I prefer by a mile.
shareHe is definitely entitled to say that, it does not mean he is right. Different Batman's and all that.
His show and Keaton Batman are my favourite interpretations of the character.
The title implies that Adam West found something amiss with Michael Keaton's portrayal of the character, "Michael Keaton's Batman was 'off-putting'."
However, it seems clear that the issue was Tim Burton's depiction, not Keaton's portrayal. His issue is with the writing and reimagining of who Batman is. The assassination of his character.
And Batman shouldn't work solely for his own satisfaction, but for the good of Gothamites. In the film, he destroyed those first two hoods but did nothing for the people they'd mugged. He did more damage fleeing from the museum in his Batmobile and, later, with his crashing Batplane than the Joker did in the entire film.share
Keaton is the best Batman.
Nolan's Batman trilogy sucked except for Heath Ledger's Joker. Christian Bale was boring and uninteresting.
Right on the money.
And don't forget how ridiculous were:
the batmobile
his batman voice
gordon
robin
catwoman
bane
And he had a lisp. It sounds trivial, and I'm not making fun of people with a speech impediment, but Batman trying to sound tough with a lisp doesn't work.
shareKeaton's still the best Batman, and Tim Burton's gloomy, 1940's/modern day hybrid, is still my favourite Gotham.
shareIf one remembers correctly....
What West was most upset about is he didn't get the role.
I believe, he was actually lobbying for it.
IOW, if he was cast, yeah, then sure, the Tim Burton version would have been fine with him.
I seem to remember there was talk at the time that West was offered a cameo as Thomas Wayne and turned it down.
