I thought Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker was a disappointment. Anyone else agree?
It came off as "cartoonish" and lacked the psychotic, macabre of Heath Ledger's version.

shareJack Nicholson's Joker admittedly, always seemed to be more creepy and sleazy than downright scary like you could argue and say that Heath Ledger's version was. The only parts where I would say that I'm extremely uncomfortable with him is the scenes involving Jerry Hall (especially after her character gets scarred in the face) and Kim Basinger's characters.
What probably didn't serve Nicholson's Joker too well if you want to compare him to Ledger's is that we know too much about his backstory. Therefore, he's kind of "humanized" to a degree. As far as I know, Joker in the comics, doesn't really have a solidified backstory before he became a supervillain. With other members of Batman's rogues galley like Catwoman, Riddler, Two-Face, Penguin, Scarecrow, etc., we at least, have a reasonably good idea of who they were before they became criminals.
Total disagreement! The Batman movie is set against the backdrop of the eighties in all its “greed is good” malevolence. Who better to play the Joker than Jack Nicholson, notorious Hollywood bad boy who gave the phrase “party animal from hell” new meaning!!!
