As a 90s kid, I'm pissed off that they did this

S29:E21, Flanders Ladder.

They make out that Bart and Lisa have no idea what a VCR is and how it works.

They only understand streaming apparently.

Really?!?!

90s icons Bart and Lisa don't understand how a VCR works?

reply

Yeah that’s pretty dumb.

reply

I haven't watched an episode since about 2006. I do agree that is stupid but they want to appeal to kids in today's world who don't know what a VCR is.

They’ve mixed it up, with homer and marge having Bart in the 90s, to representing their high school days as the 1970s again. They can’t make up their mind.

They should have come to the artistic decision to make the show stuck in the 90s. No tablets, smart phones, internet only on the desktop.

There’s enough in the Simpson universe to work with without jokes about Tesla cars.

This

The irony vconsidering they would watch Santas Elves on VHS during the holidays.

Realistically it's not worth getting mad at The Simpsons at this point. The best thing to do is ignore it and hope it will finally go away.

reply

Like an old person suffering from dementia.

reply

No, those people you actually have sympathy for. The greedy bastards who have milked this show to awfulness for over 20 years now is impossible to feel the same for.

reply

At this point, they should just cancel the show and do a replacement series like Duncanville.

reply

Bart and lisa dont age .
so their birth dates move .
Bart is 10 . a 10 year old born in 2011 will not know what a vcr is.

Or do you want Bart to have the knowldege of a 40 year old ?

As a 90s kid - you're getting old!

reply

Them being kids only understanding the technology of the present day is undoubtedly the idea. But with The Simpsons being so quintessentialy 90's it is hard to buy into.

reply

The thing is, we have SEEN them not only perfectly understand and comfortably USE a VCR, but also exist as kids in the 1990s, so it's very weird to try to erase history like that. That's what you have to do to accept the reality where Bart can't use or understand VCR.

It's a lot like 'Nineteen-Eighty-Four', where people are required to forget the past and only believe and accept the 'current lie', while old lies are actively being erased.

Some people here need to STOP with the trend of putting a space BEFORE punctuation. It only belongs there AFTER punctuation, for crying out loud. The " . " looks idiotic, because it is.

I'm actually more surprised people are watching the new episodes to be honest. I think the anachronisms are the least offensive thing about The Simpsons these days.

reply

I agree.

I jumped ship from The Simpsons years ago. It used to be the funniest thing on TV. Occasionally I'll catch a really old episode and still laugh out loud. Now, if I see a modern clip I barely smile.
