I Ugly Cried

So I recently got the complete series on DVD and I have been binging this morning. It has been so long since I watched this show that watching it now is almost like watching a new show for me.

So far, before noon I have ugly cried at 2 separate episodes. The episode where the bandleader almost has Quincy put down....that scene where Luther is saying good bye.....my eyes are welling up with tears as I type. Then the episode where Luther befriends Billy, and ends up heartbroken when he moves away....Omg I don't know if I have cried so hard at a sitcom before.

Luther is hilarious, and adds so much to the show but also a sad character in a lot of ways. Jerry Van Dykes acting in those scenes were very moving to me.

I'm binging now.
Yes, this show has produced some touching moments, but the laughs far outweigh the the lumps in the throat.
This is one of our favorites! Some of the funniest television!

reply

The band director should just have made Luther promise not to bring Quincy to games anymore.

is "ugly cried" a millennial thing? BTW, I don't think this show aged very well.

reply

I know. What's "ugly cried" mean?

reply

Just watched this one the other night and I did have tears in my eyes.

I wonder if Quincy took a bite out of the band director or just took a bite out of his uniform!

What was it about the band leader that Quincy disliked. When a dog as placid as Quincy takes a real dislike to someone, I always suspect the person.

reply

Hmmm. Why suspect the person? A dog can have personality flaws too. Maybe he was abused by a man whom reminded him of Quincy, not Quincy himself.

reply

I always take the side of the canine!

But you may have something there. I was watching a pet show one time where a woman had a rescue dog. It would go crazy and get upset around her boyfriend. It did not like men in general. Turned out that it was abused by its former owner, a man.

So yes, maybe the band leader reminded Quincy of his former owner. After all, he was a rescue dog. Someone got rid of him. So we don’t know if he was subject to abuse.

In my own experience I have always found dogs be be more loyal than a lot of people I know.😇

reply

Yes, I've known dogs like that, who would aggressively bark at men like they're going to attack. But they're fine with women and children. It's obviously a sign of earlier abuse.

Dogs are pack animals and loyalty is essential to the pack. They also regard their human "owner" as "leader of the pack".

Ever heard this old song lol:
