Of the ones I've seen

Ernest goes to Camp - This movie I remember making me laugh the most. I guess for the same reasons I loved the show I salute your shorts I liked this movie... which is probably because it made fun of camp, and I was never a fan of sleeping in the wilderness.

Ernest goes to Jail - was tough to rate this one lower then the last as they were both good, this film had his terrier who was cool and him as Electroman, one of the coolest scenes ever and a showdown with his dark dopelganger.

Ernest Saves Christmas- I have this on my list of essential christmas films, this film is the only film I know of that features Vern, it has quite a few scenes that make me laugh.

Ernest Scared Stupid- This movie fits in the category of campy horror, minus the horror, which actually works with ernests brand of comedy.

Ernest in the Army - Had some funny scenes but wasn't memorable

Ernest rides again- This film has a few funny scenes and a recurring theme with a tarantula in a cannon, sadly the humor was starting to disappear in this one.

Ernest goes to school- This movie really wasn't very entertaining, but the theme song was catchy and it had a few funny lines so I put it above...

Slam Dunk Ernest - This movie was boring, I think it had a moral but I forgot it, was not even good for the typical Ernest laughs.

As for Ernest goes to Africa, somehow I never saw this one, perhaps it was because after seeing Slam Dunk Ernest I just didn't feel up to pursuing it.

Wow! This is a tough one. I grew up with Ernest and have a soft spot for all his work- and non-Ernest work as well. I'll try. Here goes:
#1. A tie between "Ernest Goes To Camp", "Ernest Goes To Jail" and "Ernest Saves Christmas." I've watched these so much, I can recite all his lines without the movie even being on. Great fun anytime of year. "Gee, I'm Glad It's Rainin'" sung by Jim Varney, has become one of my favorite songs, along with "Bravehearts" by Gary Chapman.
#2. "Ernest Greatest Hits Volumes I and II." I'm counting this because I watch it like a movie and these are the most original commercials I have ever seen and know I'll never see any like these again. True genius.(I've memorized all these, too. The weird thing is: I hate commericals but I just LOVE these!)
#3. "Ernest Scared Stupid." It's not Halloween without it. I like it anytime of year, though.
#4. "Hey, Vern! It's my family Album." Varney plays a plethora of characters and voices and transitions without missing a beat. Wonderful to see.
#5. "Hey, Vern! It's Ernest." The best kid's show in the world. Very original. I know it's a t.v. series but since I have them on DVD, I can watch all 13 episodes in one day. This show did win 2 Emmy's with one going to Jim Varney. I'm thrilled about that.
#6. "Ernest Rides Again." I wish I could've ridden that big cannon, "Goliath". Classic movie. I love the voices Varney does. So distinct, you can't even tell it's him. The opening song, "There once was a man named Worrell, Ernest P. Worrell' is great. I sing to it everytime I watch it, which is about 4 times a month.
#7. "Ernest Goes To School". I love to hate on Astor Clement. Usually I wouldn't watch a character I'm not fond of but with Varney, I can't help it. I love the message in this movie as with all Ernest movies.
#8. "Slam Dunk Ernest". I didn't like the way Ernest got treated, which was far worse in this movie than with others. He just wanted to be included. Haven't we all felt that way at one time or another?
#9. "Ernest Goes To Africa". It's always fun watching 'Auntie Nelda' walk on screen. Mr. Varney was so underrated.
#10. "Ernest In the Army". I was in the Army so I loved this. C'mon, it's Ernest. Our lovable underdog.
I want to mention "Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam". No, it's not Ernest per se but Ernest does make a short appearance. Besides, I have a crush on Dr. Otto. And for that matter, Billy Boogie and Sgt. Glory, too.
If anyone has an opportunity, pick up "The Misadventures of Bubba". It's only a 30 safety video in which Jim Varney hosts and also plays his twin cousin, Bubba who talks to the camera, Billy Bob, much like Ernest talks to Vern. I never laughed so hard through a mere safety video. It had my parents cracking up when they came for a visit.
But, all in all, I love each and every Ernest movie. All of them have great messages and I love them all in a different way. They have a way of evoking different feelings when watching. Some of them bring back my childhood and some just hit the right chords of the heart and some make you laugh until you cry. He kept it funny without the filth and vulgarity. That's almost unheard of today. Even in so-called kid shows.
Jim Varney will always be my favorite actor and all around human being. He was truly a great, outstanding person in real life. 1949-2000. R.I.P.
