What made you laugh out loud?

What was your favorite and funniest scene? Mine was when Ruprict (Martin) poked himself in the eye with the fork that had a cork on it.

i acnnot believe nobody mentioned the first scene with steve martin as ruprecht

LJ: now ruprecht we have a guest, what do we do for guest, what did we do last time uncle ted was here

ruprecht takes the yellow rubber glove one used to clean toilets and stuff, puts vaseline/lubricant on...

Another bit of icing on the cake in the first Ruprecht scene is the toilet paper hanging out of the bowl and the birdcage containing what looks to be a fake bird.

Oh, show me the way to the next whiskey bar. Oh, don't ask why. Oh, don't ask why.

reply

A lot of people have mentioned Ruprecht lubing up the rubber glove, but not the next line.

Lawrence says "What did we do when Uncle Charlie was here?" Ruprecht lubes up the rubber glove. Lawrence says "No, after that. We apologize."

When the infamous "doctor" (Lawrence) shows up in the hotel room and Freddie was like, oh no, but smiling. Then, of course, when Lawrence beats the crap out of Freddie's legs but Freddie acts like he can't feel a thing. Also when Freddie appears to have had a swell time with the sailors, but it turns out they glued his hand to the door frame (eww). That woman courtseying Lawrence outside the hotel still thinking he's some prince when Miss Colgate was in his car and Freddie was "limp" in the backseat. And I loved the ending at the airport when THEY were conned! I didn't see that coming at all! Brilliant and fitting!

Wonderful, but forgettable. It sounds like a film I've seen. I probably wrote it.

I was laughing out loud through the entire movie. But there were a few particular moments.

The best was, as many have mentioned, the scene where Lawrence was whipping Freddy's legs. Michael Caine and Steve Martin were both hilarious beyond words in that scene. The parts where Lawrence charged at Freddy from across the room, where he added "the third" to his name just to give Freddy an extra whip, and where Freddy was "so happy he's crying", all had me laughing so hard I could barely breathe. I'm cracking up again just thinking of it.

Another was the part where Lawrence was first introducing Freddy as his mentally challenged brother, Ruprecht. The whole scene was hilarious, but the part that made me laugh hardest was when Lawrence said "what did we do when Uncle Ted was here?", and Freddy put on a glove and put some lubricant on it, and Lawrence says "no, after that. We apologized."

And the whole sequence where Lawrence and Janet went upstairs and danced, leaving Freddy downstairs, Freddy then crawls up the stairs and Lawrence shuts the door in his face, and then you hear Freddy moaning and the door rattling as Lawrence and Janet are trying to dance. Absolutely hilarious.

Definitely one of the funniest movies i've ever seen. Why don't they make comedies like this anymore?

Freddy (Martin) apologizing to Arthur the butler near the end of the film and Arthur replies: "Oh shut up"

But I laughed throughout so there's more.

Freddy: I'm sorry that I broke your VCR. I'll get it fixed. (Paraphrasing here, it was something like that)

Arthur: Oh, shut up!

The way that Arthur said it with so much disgust was hilarious.

mine too
I think it was :

"I'm sorry I broke your VHS player.
I want you to give me the make and model number, as soon as I'm settled I'll send you a cheque. "
"Oh shut up! "

running down to the water pushing the wheelchair, pretending he was in it and out of control. Also, when those sailors threw caine's character in the truck ( and when they saw his actions during the dancing earlier). I wish they had made caine's character really end up in the other country where the steve martin character would finally succeed over him for once.
