Frog's smirk at the end scene

What did you make of Frog's smirk, at the end sequence, after Hodges is shot? That was one of the most striking scenes in the movie to me. Throughout the movie, Frog and Hodges chit-chat as though they have a "rapport", and even though Hodges is a cop, and Frog a gang member, they talk to each other like buddies.

It was as if the movie was trying to make a point, that at no time did Frog ever have any kind of respect for Hodges, it was all just a charade to him. In the end, he was glad to see a copper die.

I don't think there was any real friendship or respect between Hodges and Frog. Hodges used him and he used Hodges (scratch my back and I'll scratch yours). That's more about convenience than respect.

I think Frog smiled because he realized Hodges caused the entire mess by leaking the source of his information. Had he not talked, the whole mess between the Crips and 21 St wouldn't have happened. Hodges, as an experienced cop, should have known better. As Frog was being arrested he asked Hodges "who did you tell?" And then he goes on to say something about doing a favor for his lousy partner (Pac Man).

Rico Suave shot him with I believe to be a AK47. When I had seen the entrance it made at the vest, I thought that wound was done wrong. A Ak47 bullet can go through concrete blocks and it passes through the body when exiting unless hitting bone. Its possible that it might of exited his back but after looking at the scene, I seen no blood explode in back of him. Those vests only could stop-at that time-about a 9mm and it depended on how many panels you wore. His entrance wound had blood come through the vest which I though was wrong for the fact the blood passes through so quickly when the blood should have taken a little longer to exit from his wound because it had to go through the layer of vest he had on and he was laying on his back (gravity) which meant unless he hit a major artery where blood would have been spurting out, the blood would have slowly dissipated onto his chest

Frog doesn’t care if Hodges died. Yeah it’s too bad, but that’s all part of the game. Frog knows it could’ve been him who died instead, and Hodges would think the same thing: “man that’s too bad. Oh well. It was his day, not mine.”

I also think he was smirking because that young newly-inducted gang member who killed Hodges died like he wanted to, in a blaze of glory. The kid just said that’s how he wanted to go out, and that’s exactly what he did. Frog got a kick out of that.
