Anyone feel bad for Betelgeuse?

It never sat right with me. Betelgeuse makes a deal with Lydia that he rescues the Maitlands in exchange for her marrying him. He held up his side of bargain, on top of getting rid of the unwanted guests. Why did Lydia need to be rescued from paying her end of the deal? She should have known what she was getting herself into.

Point!

Would you marry him? He's gross.

reply

He may be gross but he was a really funny guy! 

reply

Yes he got screwed over after doing a good thing

reply

If you count the cartoon as a sequel to the movie he did get a good deal in the end.

reply

Um, you're mixing up the spelling of his name with that red star in the constellation Orion.

Beetlejuice = character

Betelgeuse = red star

reply

To be fair it is spelled Beetlegeuse in the flyer and on his grave he made in the model.

reply

When he fishes in the fly with a zagnut bar I could of thought it said
Betelgeuse

reply

* fixed it for you

Beetle Juice = movie title

Betelgeuse = character

Betelgeuse = red star

reply

lol it even comes up in the story. They can't pronounce it correctly the first time they read it.

reply

He's also credited as "Betelgeuse" in the end titles. That's the official name of the character. The writers chose it because of the star's location in the Orion constellation; it's known as "the armpit of the universe."

reply

Yes, but he does get his points back during the cartoon version from Canada!

reply

Semantics say that the living can't really marry the dead, what would that have made Lydia, a widow's widow, or a widow of a widow?

reply

I don’t remember this scene exactly, but I think Lydia herself remains passive in this scene while the others try to say “Beetlejuice” three times.

reply

Uh, Lydia is 16. Betelgeuse is hundreds of years old... Nuff said?
