Season 2 Episode 8 "Sweet Dreams"

Worst non-season 9 episode of the entire series? Absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Wow, am I the only one that likes it? I'm not sure it has to be "redeeming" - it's a dream episode! I agree that Roseanne is best when it's based in reality, but I think some allowance for a bizarre, "out there" episode every once in a while is ok. Some of the dialogue is really funny: Roseanne: "(singing) Secretly I'm nuts about my children...smack, smack, smack" and "Watch it studs!!" It's certainly better than 99.9% of anything in Season 9.

I like the music, and I really like Vonda's singing. And no, I do not take drugs!

No, I've written on this board about my enjoyment of this episode, for the very reasons you wrote above! Also: this episode fell in line with Roseanne's feminist manifesto. In one of her books, she wrote: 'I lived every woman's fantasy in this episode: I murdered my family!'

Ha. That said, I realize not every storyline that fell within Roseanne's political ideology worked out (ahem, abortion, "riot girl" episode in Season 8, 'Fifties Show', everything in Season 9, shudder).

But I honestly think Sweet Dreams was written well. It's just the tone and format that is off-putting, 'cause yeah—it strayed so far from the show's usual setup.

Lastly, to the person who wrote that they also skip "Somebody Stole My Gal"—I also used to hate that episode, mostly 'cause it's strange and puts a sour taste in your mouth, depicting such a pitiful character like that lonely boss of Dan's. But upon repeat viewings (just letting it run on screen with the rest of the episodes) it's also actually well-written and has funny moments.

Anyway, I don't wanna come off as though I'm gung ho with every episode of this show, including the hotly contested ones lol. Rest assured, I have lots of episodes I don't care for as well ("Don't Make Me Over" is actually a fan fav to my disbelief—but I loathe it 'cause it's poorly written and clearly unfunny!!!). And like any sane person, I find Season 8 and 9 abysmal.

That's Roseanne Barr's favourite episode. I asked her one time on Twitter.

Bloody horrible episode. I agree - worse one of the first eight seasons.
