What is so special about this film?

I did not like this movie. I understand that the movie is satiric and is poking fun at fairy tales and what not, but it's just so bad, boring, and predictable. I have a friend that said this was his favorite movie. And i absolutely don't understand how. I'm frankly gobsmacked on how overrated this film is. Anyone else feel this way?

Good for you and thank you for letting us know this as if it is of any importance to the rest of us. There are many movies that are considered classics that I have seen and thought 'Really?. I guess we all have different tastes, but, thankfully, not all of us feel the self importance to go on messageboards and try to sound superior about it.

You mean, this film is only slightly overrated.

Slightly overrated is still partly good!

I grew up with the movie (essentially), so I love it. I was 17 when it came out and I thought it was going to be some sort of chick flick. A bunch of us guys got dragged to see it by some girls we knew, and it turned out to be an amazing movie.

If I saw it for the first time now, would I love it? I don't know. Probably like it, but not love it the way I do. If I was a kid seeing it now, in today's world, with today's technology and movie effects, would I love it? I don't know.

Another example of this with my taste is Grease - I saw it as a child and loved it and grew up loving it. If I saw a campy musical like that now, I'd probably flat-out hate it.

It's all in the perspective and the timing.

Watch it again. It gets better with each viewing. It is absolutely my favorite move on this entire planet. I could watch it every day and still clasp my hands with joy during the whole thing.
