That cool rotary machine gun Jesse Ventura uses...
That seems like one of the most badass (and effective) guns ever created. Does it get used very often in actual military warfare??

shareIt's based on the M134. A gun usually mounted in a helicopter. It was modified to be hand held for the movie.
sharethere was a video on youtube calculating the size and weight of ammo he'd have to carry to shoot for that long.
you can imagine the results ...
Not only the weight, but there would also be quite a bit of recoil to contend with. These types of guns are electrically powered also, so you would need a power source. Not realistic in a real-life situation, but perfect for a movie.
shareIt's so cool, the developers of Doom and Fallout 4 and many others put this type of gun in their games.
If the gun wasn't in THIS MOVIE, it might not be so ubiquitous in video games.
It's the same kind of gun Arnold later used in Terminator 2.
shareIt was Arnold's way to one-up Jesse, since Jesse said he wanted the biggest gun on the set of Predator (because next to 'Ole Painless Arnold's M16 with the M209 grenade launcher attachment was probably the next biggest gun).
Hilariously enough the only gun bigger than Arnold's gun was a helicopter mounted chaingun and that's what Jesse wanted to lug around for the duration of the shoot, LOL
It's pretty crazy that Jesse muscled his way around set with that mammoth piece of equipment. There isn't an actor walking this green Earth that would tolerate that kind of discomfort for as long as he did, but it just kind of shows what caliber of manly-men were dominating Hollywood back in the 1980s.
