Why were the bad guys torturing and interrogating R&M?
They're cops and they know the details of the case. Obviously they conveyed this to LAPD. What was the torture for besides action movie?

It doesn't make any sense. Abducting and torturing two cops is like them putting crosshairs on their heads. The entire LAPD will be hunting them down.
