Among the director driven "Platoon" by Stone and "Full Metal Jacket" by Kubrick, this film got buried in the hype. Most Vietnam veterans vote for this one being the best and I agree, "Hamburger Hill" the best Vietnam movie made. Thank you director John Irvin! Other great Irvin movies to check out:

I watched Hamburger Hill and was disappointed. For a start the characters were extremely stereotyped and unintersting, most war films when somebody gets waisted I rewind to see if they survived to get on the MEDEVAC. For this film I frankly couldnt care less if a charcter died or survived. The film didnt have any drive and 60 mins of people randomly getting shot was not interesting to me, plus the acting was in some parts absolutely dreadful. The lines appeared extremely scripted and the actors didnt seem that engrossed in the role Another thing I found annoying was when someone got killed everything went silent, the explosions and guns died down and they gave a cheesy death line or too. Then they would slowly fall into unconsiousness and the guns would start again.
