DOES THIS REALLY BELONG IN THE BOTTOM 100?

Okay firstly I must say that I do not rate this film at all. It is not a good film, but I really don't think it's so bad that it should be number 35 (currently) in the bottom 100 films. I've seen at least half a million films way worse than this one.
For a start it doesn't even attempt take itself seriously in anyway. THE TOUGHEST BAR IN THE WORLD, THE STATE HOME FOR UGLY? The film makers were obviously just clowning about. A bad film in my book is one that tries to take itself seriously and ends up falling flat on it's face due to a million story flaws and sh*tty acting. Or a film made by a complete hack.
And I don't even think that this movie is all that cheesy as other comments have said. At the end of the film, if it was a truly cheesy film, the girl would have realised the error of her ways, dressed up like a geek, dissed the bad guy losers she hung out with and would have gotten together with Dodger and both would have been spotted by some fashion investor who would have given them a stupid amount of money to make those god awful looking clothes - that's a cheesy ending. Instead Dodger disses her and walks off. No redemption for anyone.
Granted it's packed full of lame lines and some awful acting but that doesn't sound too dissimilar from any big budget hollywood production.

Like I said at the beginning, this is far from being a good film, but is it really so bad it deserves being in the bottom 100? I don't so.

i agree. i actually enjoy this movie, just like i did whe i was a little kid. its one of the funnier kids films out there, especially since its more of a..what you might call "bad" kids movie...like greaser greg always fighting people and wanting to hook up with ladies..and ali gator getting drunk..them robbing the flea market or whatever that was..hell of a movie.

It does. I love this movie too, but I almost walked out of the theater when I saw it as a child. I thought it was a trainwreck. As an adult, I think it's absolutely amazing! It is a crowning achievement in bad cinema. But technically, it is a bad movie. I saw a Billy Blanks movie the other day that comes close beating this one out, though.

Before i watched it, i had read so many bad reviews about it, so much in fact, that it made curious just to see what all the hub-bub was about. Big Surprise: I was convinced otherwise.Not exactly top stuff, but i dont think it deserves first prize for the worst possible movie. In fact, the movie made me glad I never did collect the cards as a kid, because the way they are portrayed in the movie is not all that bad, they dont look as disturbing or sadistic as on the cards (although I completely understand why children would be frightened of them, so im glad I never saw this movie as a kid, otherwise i may have had different memories of it). No sorry, this definately is not the worst movie ive seen. I think Mars Attacks! and Stealing Candy were a LOT worse than this one. But thats just my opinion, those who do like Mars Attacks and Stealing Candy, just ignore my its just my personal opinion. Anyway, GPK movie has become my favourite "bad" movie.

Yes! Lower and Lower. It is to date THE worst movie I have ever seen. Everyone who is posting good things about this movie must have REALLY strong ties to their childhood because nothing else could ever explain you liking this movie.

No, this classic doesn't deserve to be in the bottom 100.
Granted, its not a masterpiece, its a fun B-movie.

There are worse movies out right now in theatres that are worse than this classic.

Most people who say this should be in the Bottom 100 obviously don't watch THAT many movies then, and therefore have no basis for comparison.

This film is far superior to those videogame movies they release every weekend in 2007. That sherk crap, or ocean boy, all the rest of it.

Garbage Pail Kids is the wild, the raw canonized spectacle. When Jim Henson was king people put a cheerful improvisation into fantasy. What changed, therein of his death?

mymymy. Some people have a problem accepting other people's personal opinions. Its like everything in life, some people will hate it, others will love it. GET OVER IT. I have to admit that before i watched it i thought id hate it.I could criticize the fact that you hate it so much but i dont. I accept everybody' views. Even if somebody trashes a movie i like, its their own opinion and i wont judge them because of that. You dont sound like a very accepting person if you put down people just because they have different opinions of this movie. Im speaking as a film student/film buff, so i have a much more broader mind when it comes to strange/wacky movies from the 80s.

Anyone who does like this movie, should really question there judgement and choices in life, and when there wives/husbands/friends find out they love this movie, it would really give them low self-esteem, depression and possibly suicide.

The mere presence of Anthony Newley in this movie is enough to lift it well above the bottom 1,000.

you know what movie should be in the bottom 100? Ghost Rider. It was cheesy in a bad way... it was way worse than GPK. The rating system is kinda unfair. there are too many idiot that think that just because a movie isnt great it deserves a one, while giving pieces of crap like Ghost Rider a 1o..

I was a fan of the cards and looked forward to the film... until it hit video in '88 and I finally saw it. I thought it was pretty horrendous, though that inexplicably didn't stop me from watching it 50 times (admittedly I'm a sadistic lover of bad movies). THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS MOVIE excels at being a low-brow (or is it no-brow?) craptacular masterpiece. Yes, it's terrible, but it never once pretends that it isn't, which gives it a bizarre sort of charm.

There's far, far worse crap committed to film. Take a look at most anything that's been released by Pendulum Pictures and you'll see the REAL worst movies of all time. Matter of fact, here's their address: http://pendulumpictures.com/ Nearly everything in their catalog deserves a lower rating than the GPK movie, but the ratings system here on imdb is a total joke, and many of the people rating are seemingly adolescents and buffoons...

You are right, it doesn't belong in the bottom 100 films, it hardly qualifies as a film.
I loved the trading cards as a kid, but I think that's where they should have stayed, on trading cards.
They obviously spent about 5 minutes and $500 making this, and it shows. There were so many times during it that I found myself just saying "That's not funny, or gross, or anything, it's just stupid".
Even my nephew, who loves fart jokes as much as any little boy, was stunned at how stupid this movie was, and I ended up watching the last half by myself, because he left to go play in his room. I only finished it, because it was like a train wreck, I just had to see it.

They clearly put very little effort into making it, just hoping they could make a quick buck off of the popularity of the cards. Very sad.

Theres worse out there, but this one is pretty bad- had to make myself sit thru to the end. If I had been a couple of years younger when it came out and had seen it, maybe it would have been a different story. Anyone else get tired of seeing the pimply super hero kid wet himself? Or the horribly unfunny lines from each of the kids? Maybe the strange world where there are no real adults or authorities and a couple of yuppie kids extort a teenage fashion designer. And putting poo all over a kid from a sewer pipe just seemed wrong for an 80's movie.

Now there are some films that fit the mold of "So Bad Its Good"

That is what I would say Troll 2 is. Troll 2 is HORRIBLE!!! But at the very least I have fun watching it because its so bad.

But Garbage Pail Kids doesn't even have that. Its not so bad its good....its just *beep* atrocious! I can't believe I sat through it. I really can't.
