When they refused to give the new number after told "This is an emergency"...

Just curious. Normally it IS a company policy NOT to give out numbers etc without permission/consent of the other person who changed it. But say for example, someone had a REAL and legitimate emergency, and the person didn't say just change the number to prevent unwanted people from reaching them, and the person refused to give the number and as a result of that refusing, something terrible has happened...

Would morally at least, if not legally, the person who didn't provide the number be blamed? Or is it an ethical thing to do not to give numbers to seeming strangers like that even if in RARE cases, it might be a case of an emergency and might actually be important and plus, maybe the person changed their phone number for another reason or just due to a technical error or a malfunction of some sort but someone needs to get in touch with them, what then?

What do you think?

Oh and after being told by Glenn Close's character "F*ck you" he goes "my place or yours", now that was a bit unprofessional wasn't it?
