It's hard to feel sympathy for a villain who plays the hero. Even though Dan was a large douchebag for deciding to have the affair, it's really hard to feel sympathy for Alex when she leads him on. She bears as much responsibility for the affair because she was tempting and playing him, asking about his family and talking about being discrete, when she clearly wasn't. Alex is no different from Meredith Johnson in Disclosure, who tempted Douglas and set up the meeting for the purpose of sleeping with him, although Meredith's intentions in Disclosure are a completely different story. You could say Alex set him up to have the affair, much like Meredith set him up in Disclosure for the purpose of falsely accusing him of sexual harassment.
