Favorite Line

When they all get fired and the big boss comes out of his office and tells that guy to think of it as taking an early retirement, he also tells him that if there's anything he can do, just let him know and the guy replies 'Well, I certainly hope you die soon'

I could not stop laughing :-)

After Aaron tells Jane that he loves her, and then says "I have to not say that out loud. It takes too much out of me."

Wonderful, wonderful film. I just read that the Jane character played by Holly Hunter was originally written for Debra Winger, who couldn't do it because she was pregnant. Holly Hunter's career just took off after this film and Debra Winger's just kind of went nowhere/retirement. Interesting.

Debra Winger was infamous for the roles she turned down for one reason or another. She never seemed to be in it for love of the game.

"They love me....the men love me, the women love me...... ME, MAHOGANY!"

My favorite line...when Aaron is home watching Tom's newscast and says:

A lot of alliteration for anxious anchors placed in powerful posts.

Darn that's funny!

reply

Tom: How can I cross the line when they're moving it all the time. (Or something like that.)

reply

The soldier who strings together a bunch of F#@KS and then asks "Can you use that? "
Aaron's reply: "Depends on how slow a news day is"

reply

Jane: "Bastard! Snake! Quitter!"
Aaron: "Speaking!!"

Aaron: "I'll miss you, we'll talk, we'll always be friends, we'll get hot for each other every few years at dinner and we'll never act on it. OK?"

reply

"Big Finish!"

When Aaron is sweating like crazy, straight after reading the line about an accident that had people killed he adds (the second he's off the air) "I wish I was one of them" I still can't stop laughing when thinking about this one.

I laughed out loud when Aaron told Jane about the calls to the station after his disastrous stint anchoring. He says something like people called about the sweating and Jane says, "Complaining?!" and he replies along the lines of, "No, concerned--they thought I was having a heart attack."

LMAO

Yeah, that's my fave of MANY by Albert Brooks in this film (which I just watched again today).

While watching it and checking his IMBD forum, I found out he's a frequent tweeter, so, knowing he'd have to be a hoot on Twitter I figured I'd dial him up.

First thing I see from him on Twitter is "Not feeling well. What's the cutoff date for "In Memoriam" at the Oscars?"

Man, is THAT Albert Brooks or what? LOL!

I love that line also!!! It made me laugh. Poor Aaron was a complete mess and utterly embarrassed.

MY POST HAS A SPOILER!!!

Most of the movie is great and full of zingers.
My fav...towards the end, when Aaron resigns and Jane calls him. It's great when Aaron says on the phone to Jane

"All right. I'll meet you at the place near the thing where we went that time"
and Jane says

"OK I'll meet you there."

All the world's indeed a stage and we are merely players.

I like it in the scene where everyone is getting fired and Tom says to Aaron that he is being sent down and transferred to London and Aaron says something like, "No, that's where they sent Roarsch just before he became anchor! That's a promotion" and Tom says "I don't think so," and Aaron says, "They're setting you up for it all and you don't even know it!"

I love the part after Jack Nicholson's character calls and talks to Jane but doesn't want to talk to Aaron. Then Aaron whispers to Jane, "Please laugh so they think I'm not dying inside but have so much style I just said something funny," and Jane starts laughing. Then someone asks her what she's laughing about and she says "I'll never tell."

Actually, the funniest scene in the movie for me doesn't have any lines...it's when Albert Brooks' character is getting ready for his big chance to anchor and he's nervously writing his copy. The camera pans out and you see a big red string stuck on the shoulder of his shirt...he notices it out of the corner of his eye and frantically brushes it off like it were the plague. That single shot says so much about his character, the pressure he's under and network news in one simple, hilarious moment that it cracks me up every time I see it.
