Who played the better Devil?

Pacino or De Niro?

~What if this is as good as it gets?!~

pacino, by far. pacino was the highlight of devil's advocate, whereas de niro is one of angel heart's weakest elements.

^Ha

These two are completely different performances that cannot be compared, but I'll give my two cents. Pacino in TDA gives what is possibly his ultimate over-the-top performance of the 90s (and that's saying something), and I for one, find it annoying and far from great acting. Now De Niro in "Angel Heart" gives a subtle, menacing and spine tingling performance that is one of the best portrayals of Lucifer. In short, Bobby D all the way.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

De Niro is an excellent actor and nothing about Angel Heart can change that, but... did you really find anything "subtle" in the role of... ahem... "Louis Cyphre"?

reply

I guess someone else wrote the name "Louis Cyphre" into the script, not DeNiro. (And as someone else said upthread, maybe both actors were giving the portrayals the directors asked. They are different stories.)

Isn't that name a sarcastic taunt to Harry, as if to ask him who the f!0! else would he expect it to be, considering all that he's been about all these years? Louis Armstrong?

One can imagine L.C. saying to Winesap and Macintosh, "Sheesh, looks like we're actually going to have to show up for this joker. Call my manicurist."

Lucifer: Bearer of light.
