Patrick Stewart says he’s becoming an American citizen so he can actively oppose Donald Trump‘s presidency. The legendary icon made the announcement on “The View” on Thursday. Watch below.

Stewart was on the ABC talk show to promote Logan, but Joy Behar asked him about a recent tweet, in which he wrote, “Had the worst sleep of my life last night. But I was sleeping less than 300 yds from where Donald Trump sleeps. Could there be a connection?” Now the actor revealed just why he was so close to the White House.

“My wife and I, Sunny, we had gone to Washington to see good friends of ours. Three different friends who are kind of Washington insiders, because we wanted to ask them, what do we do? What do we do? So we had three separate dinners with our friends,” Stewart explained.

He went on, “And the first night that we were in Washington, I had the worst night’s sleep for years and years and years. And it was only in the morning when I got up and drew the curtains and I realized what it might be. So it was a fairly innocent tweet. I did not directly insult your president.”

That led Whoopi Goldberg to say, “Not mine.” Stewart said back to his longtime friend, “Well, he’s not mine either.” Behar then amusingly asked, “Would you like him? We’ll give him to you.” But jokes aside, Stewart does have some serious plans.

He told the co-hosts, “I’m not a citizen, however, there is — maybe it’s the only good result of this election — I am now applying for citizenship because I want to be an American, too. Because all of my friends in Washington said there is one thing you can do: Fight, fight. Oppose, oppose. But I can’t do it [yet] because I’m not a citizen.”

Stewart did not reveal how far along he is in the process. The esteemed entertainer is an Officer of the Order of the British Empire and was knighted in 2010. No word yet how Queen Elizabeth feels about his decision to go for dual citizenship. Check out the video below.

I'm calling BS on that. What stops him from shooting his mouth off as he is currently? The only thing he'd be able to do as a citizen that he can't do now is vote -- his one little vote which I'd likely cancel out. He's free to shoot his mouth off all he wants to -- to "Fight, fight. Oppose, oppose." Unless he's a complete knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing idiot, he already knows that.

That's so sad. I used to admire his work and his portrayal of Captain Picard.

Well, tit for tat- the early colonists were inspired to become Americans and a separate country because of King George. Happily, we only elect a President for eight years tops. The Brits need to learn that you don't need to allow someone with whom you disagree a lifetime reign.

Mr. Stewart made a buttload of money working in the US of A. Now he has something against our citizens making money????? So go the #bleep# home and become a millionaire with Great Britain's income tax! I really HATE when foreigners offer their useless opinions here. Go home and criticize your OWN government.

Sorry Mr. Stewart, ya lost my respect.
