Scary when you're about 8

Man, I remember this movie freaked the s*it out of me when I was young. For some reason. I used to watch The Exorcist and s*it like that but those little Troll dudes made me have to sleep in my parents' room for a week. It was especially the bit where they sit on your face. Strangely, I *beep* love it when people sit on my face now ;)

(ok, some people, not most)

scared me too! I didn't know the name of it and it bugged me for years til someone just suggested Troll on the 'I need to know' board. So glad I finally know what it is called!

Whatever you tell me, its gone in three, c'est la vie!

it took me an long ass time to even venture down to my parents basement after seening this movie as a kid in fear a troll would leap out from behind the washer and dryer and attack

I think as a child there's an inability to comprehend what exactly The Exorcist is about, while movies such as Troll, Child's Play, and Nightmare on Elm Street... all have a clearly definied "villain" that is more-or-less present in the character's world and, therefore, our own world. It is this aspect of those films that frightens us and perhaps leads us to believe that Chuckie could be hiding under our own bed (I never wanted my feet to be on the ground if I was sitting on a bed or couch as a child, simply due to one Child's Play scene).

So agreed. My mom took me and one of my friends to see this in theaters back when I was 6. She thought it was a kids movie. To this day I remember the terror I felt watching that film. I still give my mom a hard time about taking me to see this movie. Anytime she gets mad at me now I simply blame it on her for taking me to see Troll back in '86. The main Troll haunted my dreams for YEARS! The scene where Sony Bono gets turned into a plant was the single scariest moment in cinematic hostory. And it's based on a true story too! His ski accident was a cover-up. The Troll got him in real life. I know Sony's Bono's Son's college roomate. And the roomate told me so!

Yeah, this used to be one of my most favorite movies as a kid. I used to love Child's Play & Cujo, but they didn't scare me like this movie did. I forgot the name of this movie until just now... while searching the 100 worst movies of all time (Trolls 2) here... i'm surprised this movie & the sequel got such low ratings.

Now that I know the name I plan to find & rewatch them (now i'm 21)... i'm sure i'll see why they have such low ratings after I watch them for the first time in like 14 years.

EDIT: I'm watching them now. I was wrong - Troll 2 was the movie that used to scare the crap out of me as a kid. Troll 1 seems to be more fantasy/sci-fi than horror. I thought it was alright, though. Still don't know why it's rated so low... pretty original compared to the newer movies i've been forced to watch.

I used to watch this movie all of the time when I was a kid...I have no idea why I was so scared of this movie, but it really freked me out. One time I watched when my parents were out and my sister was babysitting me, and I would not get off of my bed until my parents got home cause I was so scared.

Yeah troll scared the sh*t out of me when I was a kid. And this movie is labeled a fantasy movie??? And PG??? WTF? This movie should have been rated R or NC-17 lol! Hell I would rather be in one of Jigsaw's traps or being chased by Micheal Myers than have to deal with those f'n trolls.

Child's play 1 scared me, but I thought chuckie was funny as well. I laughed at the part when Andy says "Chucky's comming and he's going to kill me!" lol!

I wasn't really scared of Troll 2, except for the portraits with the goblins in it, and the part when the goblins are eating somebody...

LOL! That's too funny. I definitely get all nostalgic thinking of this movie. We actually had it on VHS so I watched it a lot as a kid. I loved it. And yes, it probably permanently scarred me from going into basements. I grew up in Florida where we don't really have those, but when I moved to Chicago and had to go in my first basement to do laundry, I was like, oh hell no.

Of course as an 8 or 9 year old little girl, Noah Hathaway definitely sweetened the pot on this campy deal.

I don't understand the haters. This movie was great for what it was.

Here's a glass to the ORIGINAL Harry Potter! :-D

I gotta say, Troll 2 earned its spot on the bottom 100, that film was beyond rubbish. It made my brain hurt, and I watch tromo team films (on purpose even)

reply

haha, troll 2. "they're eating her....and then they're going to eat me.....oh my gaaaaaaaawd!!"

couldn't resist. anyways, i always thought this was a horror. then i saw for the first time yesterday and was like "what the... a fantasy?" heh, i really like it though, i put it next to The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. anyone know of old fantasy movies like those that I may enjoy?

"That was too close! You were almost a Jill samwich!"

OMG! I don't even know HOW I saw the movie when I was that young but I did....to this day basements STILL make me nervous, and I still remember that creepy little singalong that she's singing before she goes down to the laundry room...

Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot, nine days old...

And the troll is hiding in the shadows....UGH!!!
