Maverick is a little creepy by current standards...

He meets charlie (I think that's her name?) at a bar and serenades her with the help of his friends. To appease the crowd she says he can sit down and after the crowd disperses she excuses herself and leaves him. What does Maverick do? He goes and confronts her about his advances in the lady's toilets/bathroom. That is already just creepy in my book. If you watch the scene, he is blocking her exit, and just standing there..

Then later, after Maverick discovers her identity as their teacher pertaining to maneuvers he has to learn from her and vice versa , he just eerily chews his gum and tells her how she would have liked it.

Maverick is a creep!

It would have been pretty silly if Charlie was on the can when he went into the ladies room, there's at least a 50% chance that would have happened. My guess is if you look like Tom Cruise and you're a fighter pilot, you're off the hook.

Women don't want men who give up easily. If they find the guy attractive, that is. If they don't find the guy attractive, they want him to give up before he's even begun. Problem is, to the guy hoping to score, it's not that easy to tell the difference between feigned disinterest (playing hard to get) and genuine disinterest. And if women want men to take the initiative, then you'll have to accept that you'll be approached by all sorts - not just the ones you might fancy. Sorry, but that's just your lot. And if you're approached by some hopeful guy you can't stand, and you shoot him down, who's the worse for it - you or he? The grass isn't greener on the other side of the fence.

Women should start taking the initiative more often. It will 1) allow them to choose which guy to go for instead of being limited to the ones that approach her 2) if enough do it then men will not be in a position where they feel they have to "shoot their shot" as often which would mean the women get hit on less and 3) it will give them experience in going for something they want which will help them in other aspects of life such as getting raises at work because they will have learned how to be assertive with out coming off as demanding.

Yeah, and the OP is an asshole by current standards. Standards change with time, but good sense and good taste are constant.
