Was Iceman partly responsible for Goose dying. It seemed that Iceman was selfish trying to get that plane when he was too close for the shot, but he wanted to win top gun so bad. Maverick had the clear shot but Iceman wanted to deny him. So Iceman finally moves off and thats when Maverick flys into his jetwash and loses control. Goose then dies hiting his head while trying to eject.
shareSomebody else on Reddit addressed that Iceman took way too long to shoot a target that was right in front of him. He then decides to get out of there without giving warning to Maverick. This causes Maverick to fly into his jet wash and lead to an F-14 in a flat spin and subsequently, Goose tragically getting killed.

Is Cougar somewhat indirectly responsible for Goose's death? He at the very least created a butterfly effect of sorts. Remember that Cougar (and presumably, his RIO Merlin) were originally supposed to participate in the Top Gun program. But after Cougar had his panic attack and quit the United States Air Force, Maverick and Goose took his place.

Though I do blame Mr Kellogg, if he hadn't invented Coco Pops then Iceman wouldn't have had them for breakfast and therefore would have had his 2nd favourite cereal, Weetabix. This would have given him the sharpness and dexterity require to take and make the shot leaving Goose free to sing about balls of fire and take Meg in his arms and lose her forever.
