which is better? I vote Stand By Me.

Outsiders. I loved the book so much that I probably read it 20+ times. The movie was good, but books develop characters much better.

Definitely Stand by Me. The Outsiders is great, but the Complete Novel directors cut version was a major regression and ditched all of the original music for pop hits from the 50s that FFC probably couldn't afford to license originally. His original vision was great and he tainted it. Reiner was a god for like 6 movies straight and never questioned his own instincts. Stand by Me is the crown jewel of not only his career but maybe 80s cinema altogether.
