Don't bother with SLC Punk or that abysmal Runaways movie. Also, avoid the terrible Germs movie, What We Do Is Secret. I really hate bio pics about "punk." They always seem so fake and stupid. Even Taqwacores was awful. Could've been good but just ended up really hokey and dumb.
This is England is a good movie (not doc) about growing up as a punk/skin in England in the 80s.
There are some great documentaries about punk... like the doc on the Runaways, Edgeplay. Also, Afro-punk and You Weren't There: History of Chicago Punk, 1977-1984.
I enjoyed "SLC Punk" and "Ladies And Gentlemen ... The Fabulous Stains".
"Breaking Glass" and "Smithereens" are popular but I haven't seen them.
Would "Times Square" be considered a punk film?
Ooh, I love "This Is England". I've been really wanting to watch that lately, so I had to order it online. I'm waiting for it to come in!

shareSmithereens is an excellent place to start (1982, starring Brad Rinn and Susan Berman). Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains ('82, Diane Lane), Times Square (1980, Trini Alvarado), Rock and Roll High School (1979, Ramones), are all movies I turn to when I want to "relive" the punk era, even though quite a few of them are exaggerated and 'Hollywoodized'. Smithereens probably comes the closest. If you're wanting to see concert films as well as movies, I would suggest DOA (1978, Sex Pistols) and the Punk Rock Film (1979, Generation X, etc). Well worth a look. Jubilee's also a good one.
