Is The Book Recommended?

I only just watched this movie, and loved it.
I think it is a very good film with an excellent structure that shows how people's dreams can lead them to spiral into frustrated madness.
I am curious on whether to buy the book off eBay and read it to compare it to the film?
Could somebody tell me whether the book is worth reading and if it as good as the film?

For years I've thought of it as one of my very favourite novels, but I haven't read it since I was in high school.
