People above 30, Why you didn't watch Labyrinth at theaters?

It makes me curious. A movie that everyone loves but very few watched in a theater. I'm not even sure whether it played in my country or not. I was 6 back then and my family didn't go to movies often.

The people who got the chance to see it in the theaters and didn't, did you ask your parents to take you and they refused?

Or you heard it wasn't good and avoided it?

Why do you think it didn't become popular until the video and later DVD release?

I've used the movie for an ESL group and everybody loved it!

I don't even remember it ever playing in theatres in my city. It probably did, but certainly didn't generate much buzz (if any at all) for me to notice when I was that small.

Too bad because I think I would have liked it!

We lived in a rural area. It was 20 miles from the nearest theater. Movies were a luxury and my parents didn't care to pay for that luxury. We got cable instead with HBO. The programming then was really different and creative.

It wasn't popular enough to have wide enough a release that I, my friends of family would ever have heard of it. It didn't play in theaters all over the world.

Not that I would've gone to see it anyway, a boring-looking girl, some creepy-looking guy, disturbingly ugly toy characters, dark, brooding, grey, brown colorscheme, and the theme being 'girl turns from spoiled child to a bratty teenager while searching for an annoying, screaming baby from a creepy and completely unappealing location'.

That doesn't exactly spell 'fantastic entertainment for kids'. A kid may enjoy a movie like E.T., or want to watch movies like 'Galactica' or 'Back to the Future', with 'magical, 'cosmic' or 'timetravel' events, robots, spaceships, Extra-Terrestrials, Time Machines, out-of-this-world storylines...

..but some boring woman romping through a boring jungle with 'bad-smelling swamp' doesn't exactly exhilirate the imagination to soar in stellar heights.

I don't remember ever hearing about it, maybe because it is a movie for kids. I was 16 at the time, and to this day I've never seen it. I probably should, as I'm a huge fan of David Bowie, but to be honest, I don't think I ever knew this movie existed until perhaps 10 years ago.

I didnt know about Labyrinth until it was released for VHS back in the day. I was 6 years old at the time and even when i was a kid i didnt have fun going to a movie theater since most of the new movies were all action movies and gory like Predator.

Last time I saw a movie at the movie theater whether it was the drive in theater or regular movie theater when i was a kid back in the day i enjoyed Conan, Dark Crystal,Superman II,Superman III, Dune, Return of the Jedi and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

1985 to 1987 was a rough time for kids back then since Star Wars craze died down and yeah there was the Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and 3 sequels but that was about it to actually enjoy.

I cant speak for everyone else that grew up as a kid in the 1980s but that was my experience back then. I just didnt hear much about Labyrinth back then since I was still in G.I. joe, Star Wars and old WWF phaze at the time
