The Thing 1982 or The Fly 1986 which was better ?
For me there both brilliant. I love the practical effects in both films and there both scary.

shareThe Thing for me definitely
shareThat's tough. Probably The Thing. Both are examples of horror remakes that are better than the original (extremely rare) and feature animatronics that still outmatch most CGI today.
But the 2 are different films. The Fly is a tragic horror while the Thing is a survival slasher. I personally watch The Thing more because it's more action-y and there's more questions and mystery in it (like who is the Thing at what phase). The Fly, I watch on occasion simply because the movie still grosses me out and leaves me feeling really depressed in the end.
I remember watching both of them when I was younger, whether renting from the library or on TV and both of them scarred me in different ways. The Thing just grossed me out in how hideous a monster can look while the Fly just gave me nightmares in how a human can slowly deteriorate in isolation.
Actually The Thing wasn't a "remake" of The Thing from Another World, The Thing from Another World and The Thing are 2 completely very very different that i don't even consider The Thing to be a remake at all, it's actually rather another adaptation of the same book from 1938 as it was a pure adaptation while the 1951 version was a very loose adaptation.
A remake is only for when it's based on an original screenplay not based on literature like for example, The Nutty Professor or Night of the Living Dead being true examples of true remakes.
"Unicorn, mermaid, vampire, sorceress! No name you'd give her would surprise me i love whom i love"
The Fly isn’t a remake either. It’s an adaptation of George Langelaan’s 1957 short story “The Fly”, not a remake of the 1958 movie.
Neither John Carpenter’s The Thing or David Cronenberg’s The Fly are remakes.

I can never choose. Both are amazing films with different themes.
Let's be bad guys.
I love both for very different reasons. The fly taps into your emotions and makes you feel sympathy towards Seth as he slowly deteriorates & for Veronica's love for Seth as she loves him unconditionally despite his changes.
The thing is more of a psychological horror as this taps into the paronoia amongst the characters. It ends brilliantly as you are not told if either characters are the thing.
I rate The Fly slightly higher over the Thing as the score really gets me emotionally and the brilliant acting of Jeff. He should have won an Oscar for this.
Definitely the fly
shareThe Thing for me but i still love The Fly as both are fantastic sci-fi horror films.

"The Fly"
As most people have noted, "The Thing" is a masterpiece in terms of psychological horror and the places it went with practical effects, but there's still something so deeply human about "The Fly" that makes it all the more emotionally devastating as it is physically nauseating to watch. I feel a chill during the last three minutes of "The Thing" whereas I'm a total wreck when the Brundlething pulls the shotgun barrel up to its head.
