mereli, I know what you imply,I was born july 1989,male and as a kid in the 90s and even early 00s I did not know the preciousness that I was experiencing at the time.Even though CGI animation was around and about already since at least 1995 Toy Story and 1998 Antz,Bugs Life etc, there was still much classic animation such as ''the land before time''(which I think helped inspire Spielberg,as producer,to do Jurassic Park in 1992), pinochio, aladdin, beauty and the beast, little mermaid, lion king - half of these I never saw,and half of them saw only as a small kid(lion king in the cinema for ex),but still,I apparently was effected by animation of the 20th century, even stuff like alice in wonderland(1951) and Popeye cartoons of the 30s and 40s etc, bugs bunny and looney tunes characters from the 30s and 40s and 50s, flintstones/jetsons from the 60s,scooby-doo,hong-kong phooey from the 60s and 70s, of course lots of other stuff from both feature and tv animation of the times before my own birth. I still had the chance to see all this as re-runs in the 90s and early 00s on cartoon network(did not have boomerang in Estonia) and a bit late fox kids starting in mid90s here. Never saw nickelodeon much(i guess it came here only when I was in my early teens) or the disney channel either.
But I recall school days, morning shows like teenage mutant ninja turtles, motorcycle mice from mars and winne the pooh bear on local tv here, with subtitles or dubbed in some cases.Helped me learn English
Also recall Captain planet and the planeteers, x-men(a modern cartoon, but still) from 1992, batman(1992 series), spider-man(1994),iron man, fantastic four, hulk even
then dexters laboratory, courage the cowardly dog,tom and jerry,as violent as it is,and ed,edd and eddy and 2001 samurai jack. After this I recall there was the grim reaper show billy and mandy, beyond this it just became increasingly ''blah'' for me, the 90s still had some magic seemingly, for me.And since 2004 Disney has not had any classic animations except princess and the frog in 2009,so it seems to be cgi for features now,and tv shows mostly feature robotic characters that dont even resemble humans much compared to the 20th century cartoons.
Im glad that as a kid I got to see 30s,40s,50s,60s,70s,80s,90s cartoons before they took it off the air I think in the early 00s.
Good news is,I have not seen most of the disney or other studio films since early childhood or at all,let alone the newer animations.last animation I saw was shrek 2 I think,on tv.
have not seen the 2002 treasure planet,or 2001 atlantis film, disney one. Dinosaur(2000) was a wonderful film from my childhood that i was able to see, reallt magical for me,a bit later I got to see harry potter and lord of the rings in 2002 on VHS tape,so early 00s still had magic for me,but thats a childhood advantage I guess,no need to worry about stuff, just enjoy life.
I have not seen this film probably,at least not consciously,so will check it out eventually, but just wanted to say that I too miss the classic animation, not that I dont like CGI or even some odd-looking animations, but classic ones are reminders of the age of innocence for me.
