Where was Bishop when the Marines were ambushed?

Bishop is shown on the Sulaco with the crew before they deploy to LV-426, yet he isn’t shown again until he pops up after the drop ship crashes and they regroup back at HQ. Where was he during the ambush/APC rescue?

he should've definitely been WITH those surviving marines to gtfo.
or maybe he already knew there was alien organism on board Sulaco (comin in hot with Ferro) and that there is no way out.
