How about a Netflix series .. ?

Who here would like to see, say a Netflix series charting the events from the first colonist exposure to the eggs right up until the marines arrival on LV-426?

Do you think it would be good to see it all as it might’ve happened, or do you think it’s better left to the imagination?

I’m a bit torn to be honest. I’d love to see exactly what happened in the complex, the ‘last stand’ by the colonists. I’d also love to see who was eating ‘that’ donut at ‘that’ particular time lol.

It would fascinating to see it all as it unfolded - the attack, the desperate fight, Newts escape and her ultimate survival. Maybe it would be better left to the imagination though, I’m not sure.

More importantly, what do you think?

I can’t help thinking that someone, someday will consider this too good an opportunity to leave alone.

I think you may be on to something here. I just came to the forums straight after rewatching Aliens for perhaps the several hundredth time, one of my favourites from childhood to present, 15 years or so of watching.

I am still blown away. If they could stay true to the source material and recapture the atmosphere of this film with old school effects, then they could be on to a winner here. I for one would trust Netflix to revive this franchise. After Alien: Isolation, however unlikely a sequel to the game may be, my faith in the franchise was completely restored. It wasn't perfect but after the way I've had to watch possibly my favourite ever franchise be treated, it was a golden attempt. Yes I know the movies after this one, from most perspectives, flopped or did the story a disservice in some way.

These creatures are scary. Space is scary. The lack of CG in favour of costumes and animatronics was scarier than CG will ever be. There is a huge market for scares on Netflix. The same recycled formula with the likes of movies like Annabelle, The Conjuring, The Nun etc. has been done to death. It's becoming clear that people are bored of it.

New life is currently being breathed in to so much of 80's pop culture right now in movies and TV shows, so it wouldn't at all feel out of place. If anything it's the perfect time to do it. It would be a risk, but a bold one at that! They cast Paul Reiser (Carter Burke) in Stranger Things, during a stand off against the creatures in the show. I got major Alien vibes during that!

Hudson: "Yeah man! Netflix should do it... Great idea!"

Netflix: "Believe me we'd prefer not to, we may be rich, but we're not stupid." We promise we'll love it, Netflix!

That's a good idea. I've never considered it as a TV miniseries before. I did read a script written by a couple of guys a while ago covering this exact story. It had some good elements. From memory, it revealed Commander Simpson (the boss of the colony played by Mac McDonald) to be the one who was eating the donut when he was notified of the emergency unfolding.

I can imagine the opening scene already: a ship is en route to LV426 with a group of new rookie colonists in hypersleep and it is these characters which we follow as the events begin to happen.

From the Netflix website:

If you have an idea for a show or film, you may be curious how to send it to Netflix. Netflix only accepts submissions through a licensed literary agent, or from a producer, attorney, manager, or entertainment executive with whom we have a preexisting relationship. Any idea that is submitted by other means is considered an “unsolicited submission.”

Good idea. I'd watch that .
It'd be a bit of a downer knowing the outcome though.
I'd imagine there would be some rights issues for netflix to deal with . whoever made those last 2 crappy movies probly has the rights

Yes I agree that it wouldn’t be the same knowing how it ends but not every series ends on a happy note.

Can you imagine how damn cool it would be in the very last scene seeing the dropship descending to the planets surface? I’d be up for that! Maybe it could end with Newt seeing the dropship before she returns to her hideout.

This series has a lot of potential.

reply

A good scriptwriter should be able to work around that a bit. We know Newt survived. Maybe there were others... others who made it off the planet but haven't been found/discovered yet.

Spitballin' here...

reply

Excellent, good idea. Maybe we should all band together, write down our ideas and send them in to Netflix.

reply

If Netflix is lurking here, I'm letting them know that I would be so in with this idea.

reply

Hah ... I would watch it for sure. I would not pay for it, and I would not
expect to enjoy it much, because I don't think it would interesting and it
would not be done well ... but I would tune in to see.

NEwts Tale by Dark horse comics covers it.

I do think they could of done many series for different stories regarding aliens but have messed up wanting big pay offs with movies only.

They could of also done animated series or movies so many quality comics/graphic novels about.

if you want to know about lv-426 Acheron some nice audio dramas available River of pain is good one.

reply

It would only be worth 10 episodes at most and the love triangles they through in would feel like a copout to the lmain plot.

reply

I think they should do a series that takes off after Aliens and ignores the rest of the films in the series, and posit some kind of future where human-occupied space is partially infested with xenomorphs and the struggle to contain them.

It provides all kinds of narrative options, including defending planets, space stations, dealing with contaminated ships, and colonies in an "infected system" whose planets/moons/stations/ships may not yet be infected but are kind of cut off due to the entire system or sector being quarantined.

It would kind of be like "The Expanse" but with Xenomorphs and interstellar travel. It would also allow them to develop the concepts surrounding colonies, the corporations, and get into a potential history/backstory of the xenomorphs.
