I think it's a ridiculous ending. No way would the "rude New Yorkers" accept that from him.

actually i found the ending to the sequel more powerful, but this is a classic ending, don't remember the ending of the third crocodile dundee movie. some of the funniest lines in this actually comes from sue's big city boyfriend when referring to crocodile dundee "this will be quite a novelty for you... eating something without having to kill it first" or "where's the man from the backwoods", both him and sue's daddy doesn't return for the sequel, the boyfriend makes sense not returning though. this movie feels so short compared to the sequel which feels like two flicks in one since when you think it's wrapping up there is a whole new adventure as they travel to dundee's home. it's been a while since i saw the third crocodile dundee movie and i understand there has been some kind of fourth now with chevy chase and john cleese joining in, but not really a sequel if i got it right, it's so disappointing that they didn't make a real sequel.

All good points from everyone. The ending is one of a kind, very memorable for sure! And yeah, this could’ve only happened in the movie. I also think that the mo ie feels a bit short, but only because it’s really really good! This is my Casablanca movie 😂

I watch this last year for the first time in maybe a decade. I loved it, but the ending made me profoundly sad because I know the true story with Paul and Linda in reality. As a movie ending and love story I find the first film wonderful. The end shot reminded me of Karate Kid.

I used to watch this movie almost every year and I’ll be revisiting it for the rest of my life. I think it’s one of the most romantic movies ever, and now the older it gets the better it is, paired with nostalgia of the 80s, old NYC, Australia. It’s just can’t get better than that. Actors, setting, humor, music - it’s all falls in perfectly in this movie.

The odd joke seemed dated such as the scene in the bar, but I totally agree with you. It was always on TV in the UK.

i have not watched this movie since i was a kid and just saw it again for the first time in over a decade while riding amtrak train across USA. i am a grown ass man and the ending fucking made me cry in public no joke. i loved this movie and rented it so many times from the library as a kiddo it has such a special place in my heart and after spending so much time away from it i couldnt help but be moved so much. best love story ever put onto camera!! not many movies can warm my cold bitter heart but this is one of them!!!!

Not just that but, also a very positive portrayal of people not being judgmental and finding ways to accept each other. I thought the “live and let live” was a nice theme of the story. Mick was naïve but, that made him more willing to accept other people. In response they did the same to him, overlooking some gaffe he made because they saw he was genuine and was actually trying to find common ground. In today’s “outrage culture” where everyone is looking to manufacture a reason to be offended, it was good to see the opposite theme written into this movie.

The ending is incredible. They threw realism right out the window and said screw it, we're making a movie here. Just wonderful. It's almost a modern day fairy tale. Never get tired of this movie.

That is a great observation. Screw it, we're just going to make a movie.. Well said.

reply

Agreed, I love this film and the ending is perfect.
