nothing but typical degradation of asian women

what well-minded woman, or human being for that matter would have sex with someone who openly uses malign and racist language towards an entire race of people. Asian Women are not idiots and they are not sex fiends, and all this movie does is portray negative stereotypes that have been plauging our society since the beginning of film and media. i'm sure a lot of the viewers/enjoyers of this movie are probably just lonely degenerate, chauvinistic jerkoffs..to you, please regard this message: you're a pig. thank you

I would be curious as to what you think of this movie ten years from now. You haven't stated your gender, but you make a statement that assumes people (women for this instance) are always rational and do what is best for them. The only truth I find in your statement is that women were not found in Asian gangs in Chinatowns. Perhaps you would like to read a latest scholarly article on Asian identity crisis along with an article on the dynamics of S & M relationships. This film is real-life and if you want to live in a shell, that is your choice.

This film is hugely politically incorrect. It is sexist and racist among many other flaws. It is hugely entertaining though, in much the same way as a 70s Clint Eastwood film is.

...did you not see the disclaimer at the beginning? Where it says that this movie does NOT mean to portray ALL asians like this, and that most asians are hard working and contribute much to our culture?

You are joking Heatsketch?

(In America?) They force an adult to read a disclaimer (tacked on to the start of the film) before they watch a work of fiction? Is that just for this film? (I understand at the time people WHO HAD NEVER EVEN SEEN THE FILM caused uproar and wanted it banned)

That is disgraceful, mainly because it causes the audience to 'see' exactly the opposite view of what the disclaimer states.

Anyone who watches this film, without predjudice/pre-judgement, won't even notice ANY underlying racial motive for the making of this film.

Herbert - Great, brave, smart, loyal...very hard-working!

Tracy - Does an expose on a crimelord, i.e. puts her life on the line...Finds Stanley White's power 'sexy', nothing strange there. Intelligent enough to take his 'racist' remarks with a pinch of salt.

Joey Tai - Extremely charismatic, you almost root for him, a great anti-hero. Smart in any sense of the world...Just happens to be a mafia boss (do we hear Italians whinge about 'The Godfather'?...No.).

Gang members - They're money collectors for the triad's 'protection racket', they're not meant to be nice.

Stanley White - Sure, he uses old-fashioned 'racist' language, but that's realistic for his (Vietnam) generation. However, he clearly respects many of the 'elders' and the (hard-working) man in the soy bean basement. If he was truly racist he'd hardly have sex with Tracy. He wants to make China Town a better place.

... I don't know how I dug this out of the recesses of my mind...but who wrote the screenplay for this film? http://www.superiorpics.com/event/21st_Annual_American_Cinematheque_Award_Honoring_George_Clooney/6485_stone_18302.html

P.S. The original poster of this topic was a 'one post wonder' and is long gone. This is not a rant at them, this is purely for the benefit of any newcomers and this is how it truly is. This is an excellent film and is anti-triad, not anti-chinese.

You're obviously some brainwashed, moron liberal who attended one to many woman's lit courses, yet has not the slightest clue about the world past his own narrow-minded, touchy-feely and childishly oversensitive goggles.

In other words, a typically moronic American dummy.

Haha. "Openly uses racist language."

Very amusing.

I am neither a viewer [not having seen all of this film], enjoyer, nor a pig. You are welcome. If you think some of us are, then that makes you a sow.

Sometimes you need racism in films in order to give it the realism of the streets. And for your Information, it still exists. If it didn't then we might as well well all tart watching FRIENDS !

i put the thread starter in ignore.
films are made to describe a scene, a political situation, the human behavior.
if i film a nazi who beat a guy, i im a nazi ? if i act like a nazi, i am a nazi ?
oh *beep* if the people dont have the cultural base or a minimum QI of 100.. plz dont watch micky rourke, watch micky mouse..

Yeah, people are too PC nowadays. There's no way a movie like this could be made today. Yeah, older policeman in the 80's (and probably now) used racial slurs. I don't expect the police to refer to the bad guys as "gentlemen". Old Italian mobsters refer to blacks by the N word. It's a fact! I like my movies gritty and raw and not sanitized. And this is coming from a black woman, not a chauvinist pig, as the OP implied that all viewers of this movie were.

What a waste. Oh, the humanity!

reply

if he were a racist....why would he be together with an asain woman in the film??

you need to lighten up a bit OP, not everyone is conservative nun like yourself. it's a movie..and even if it were real life its not that big a deal. i dont even remember a lot of "racist language" in the film and i just watched it.
