the training montage. What was the point of it?
I understand Drago getting juiced up like crazy but what was the point of Rocky doing old school heavy lifting of rocks and oxen equipment?

shareare you watching this on TBS right now?
shareNo but I have seen Rocky IV bunch of times long before it was on tv.
Im asking a question. What was the point of the whole training montage anyway?
Aside from being just plain awesome, it was demonstrating Rocky taking a back to basics approach in contrast with Drago's state of the art facility. With the death of Apollo, it was Rocky's way of stepping back from the limelight and glamour that he had become accustomed to. Not sure what deeper point you might be looking for but don't think it really goes beyond that.
shareI believe the point was to make the most amazing over the top insane training montage of all time. It was the 80s. There was a lot of training montages in movies. I think Sly straight up just wanted to raise the bar to the moon.
In terms of the film, this was Sly being critical of the changing trends in training, with computers and chemicals taking over. He decided to show Rocky going in the opposite way, getting back to raw basics, showing the old ways are the best ways. Past vs Future. Tradition vs Innovation. It's the same thing as when he left the fancy gym behind to go back to his old dungeon, just taken up a notch. It was also critical of Russia showing that by embracing what made Russia strong to begin with, he could defeat their modern approaches to things. The whole movie is a big F U to Russia.
What's craziest is that there wasn't just one awesome training montage, there are TWO!
shareHaha. Damn right! That's why this is my favorite Rocky movie, even though it's not the best.
shareI think a lot of people feel that way. In a lot of ways it's my favorite also because it's the only one that I'd pretty much stop and watch every time I came across it on TV. It's kind of like the comfort food of movies. But like you I recognize it's not the best in the series.
shareThey were airing a Rocky marathon over thanksgiving years ago, and the whole family got watching it. Like 30 people of all ages sitting around watching, enthralled. I'll never forget it. Even the angry old ladies were digging Rocky 4. A bunch of em had never even seen a Rocky movie before. Most never saw the sequels. It was magical.
shareHaha that's awesome!!
shareMy uncle is an old school hippie and he had never seen any of em. Me and my buddy, we watched the movies every weekend. He was high as balls and had glomed on to me as the interactive resource for trivia and history about the movies. During the Drago fight, he leered at me all red eyed, "This is SO intense!" He still talks to me about it all these years later. We party together now and it's surreal to say the least. Rocky brings families together.
shareI remember I was 12 years old when Rocky 4 came out and had become hooked on the Rocky movies since part 3 had been played on HBO non stop when I was 10. My friends and I showed up an hour early at the box office to make sure we could get tickets opening night. Needless to say we weren't disappointed.

^^^
This is my exact thoughts....
Not only it is my favorite Rocky movie...Its one of my favorite Action Movies....even though I dont consider it like an all time great movie or anything....
IMO its not actually even a good boxing Movie....This was 100% 80s action at its heights, The was a classic Action movie disguised as a boxing movie....
I watched this so many time when I was a kid and every time I watched it, I would shadowbox and pretend I was fighting was Huge Monster....
We’re gonna need a montage
sharecan you elaborate? your question is not clear.
shareIf you dont understand my question then you are a fucking moron for not listening. My question is very clear
shareYou’re cool.
sharewell, you wernt really clear wether you were enquiring why the film included the montage at all , or if you were asking why Rocky was lifting rocks etc in the montage, both of which are stupid questions , thats why i was torn as to what you meant.
shareFuck off
shareThis is what I got from it too. OP’s a straight up dick though so best to just put him on ignore.
sharethat you don't need a fancy gym/equipment to train to win. use what you got. tech vs nature
