Worst movie ever

This movie seems like it's made by a bunch of unexperienced 15-year olds. The plot is stupid and nonlinear and it feels like they just built it up scene by scene, instead of coming up with a certain plot beforehand. One example is the hot usherette, that tall girl with the long curly hair. At first, I got the impression that she was a part of the plot, but they just killed her off, as if she was one of the guests, completely unaware of what was to come. And then the ending... Obviously they weren't creative enough to figure out a way for the main characters to get out of the cinema, so they sent a chopper from the sky. And then the bad guy got killed with no effort, and you had to guess what his intentions were. But considering he was stalking Cheryl at the beginning of the movie, it's quite obvious that she was meant to be the only survivor. And when Cheryl suddenly turned into a demon, this was another pathetic attempt at being original and shocking. I mean, wasn't she supposed to make it? Wasn't that what the guy with the metal mask wanted? That's the movie in a nutshell, everything is just a contradiction. And then they turned the whole city into a demon-infested hell-hole, which contradicts the "haunted cinema" theme.

And on top of all this, the soundtrack was just horrendous. Why would you play early Depeche Mode-ish synthpop in a scene where a girl is being chased? And why would you play Motley Crue in a scene where ppl are being chased by demons? These guys obviously doesn't know how to create a mood, and the bad soundtrack treatment erased any potential horror value, which was low as it was. It was just mindlessly gory.

Yeah, but it's got TONI THE PIMP!!!!!

reply

It's not supposed to be realistic or make sense.

Every point you raised, are included in the long list of reasons why I LOVE this movie.

For example - The random chopper scene is LEGENDARY, once seen, never forgotten! Who cares if it doesn't make sense! and playing Motley Crue in the background while people are getting chased by rabid demons just puts a big smile on my face everytime.

And as for "These guys obviously dont know how to create a mood" - I couldn't disagree with you more. Maybe it wasn't the "mood" you hoped for, but whenever I watch it, it puts me in a great mood for the rest of the day!

Demons is great 'b' movie horror.......and pretends to be nothing else....
The original poster on this debate thinks "Scarface is a masterpiece", which says quite a lot really....

Long may the cheesiness and for some quite creepy brilliance of 'Demons' live to see the dawn!

"Gran'pha was always tha best...."

reply

Uh, yeah... it says he thinks great movies are masterpieces, and crap movies are bad. I'm with him.

EDIT: You know what? After sitting through the whole thing, I still thing he's totally right... but this movie was SO aggressively bad, so completely craptastic that it actually does become fun to watch. I am definitely not a fan of 'B' movies or of "so bad it's good" but this one is so sincere in its abysmal suckiness that I could see watching it again sometime for the laugh. That's got to count for something.

seriously... this doesn't make sense... something bad and stupid doesn't turn great and smart just because it's intentionally bad and stupid... it doesn't turn great either just because somebody thinks its funny. B-Movies are Bad Movies. If you like bad movies, thats fine - i've watched it too. But that does not justify high ratings or cult-like worship... i like McDonalds, but that doesn't make their food healthy.

reply

Haha I agree with you mostly. It's not even a B-movie in my opinion, more like an F-movie. Maybe it would be upgraded to an E or even a D if wasn't dubbed =P But yeah it sucks to the level that it becomes funny, I laughed through the whole thing. Think the director and his crew were incredibly brave for putting their names at the end of this one without shame haha.

reply

Wrong. Worst movie ever would be Demons 2

reply

Wrong. Watch Demons 3: The Ogre.

reply

Does any body notice that Carmen the Prostitute's demonic character Was never again seen in the film after the scene she had killed Frank[ripping his throat apart] Where the hell did she go?

reply

The chopper winch exit was fantastic as was the whole motorcycle sequence. The whole movie was a fun trip.

reply

That'll teach the OP to touch things.

reply

sounds like this was the first 80s horror movie this guy ever saw...

reply

I was thinking the same thing...if this is the worst horror movie the OP has then he's pretty damn lucky, cause I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. I love unapologetically bad B horror movies.

reply

Amen.

I mean, I watch the original Nightmare on Elm Street now and it's ridiculous, but it scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. Whatever, OP needs to get a clue.

Howeevr because they are directed by self-important fat bald middle-aged toss-pots like Argento or Fulci , badly dubbed into English with awful actors and even worse or non existent plots and less budget than the daily advertising of your local Kwik-Mart , they are considered "art-house classics" by the pseudo wannabe intellectuals who proliferate on these forum boards.

That's the pot calling the kettle black if I ever saw it. A pretentious, elitist snob calling other people "pseudo wannabe intellectuals". No sane person actually watches these films with the expectation the writing and acting are going to be on par with "The Godfather". These movies are about mood, they're about special effects, and many of the ones you listed have those in bounds. and whether you like "Zombie" or not, only an idiot would deny it's well shot at least.'

and you know what? There's nothing wrong with that. All films have their aims. This is something the OP and a few others on this thread don't understand. If you can't accept a film has a specific aim, you're not being very smart. You don't walk into "Ghostbusters" expecting a slow paced drama.

I knew the first time watching "Demons" that the plot was nonsensical. Same for the sequel. I didn't care. The movies entertained me, and that was their job. If I wanted to watch well written, well acted and well made films, I would watch "Amadeus" or "The Godfather", "Chinatown", among many others. If I want a B movie that puts a smile on my face, I'll watch "Demons" or "Return of the Living Dead".

and no, this movie is not badly made. It's pretty well shot, the effects are good, the soundtrack's good. Yeah, it's cheap. That doesn't make it badly made, unless you want to argue almost every independent film ever made is badly made.

I know that's right!

lmfao, You sir are a class A moron. Good god, is there no FACEPALM emoticon on this damn thing?

reply

Oh c'mon, even if it's unintentionally bad, it's so bad that it's fricking good! I was laughing my ass off non-stop at the lines & action! And as someone else pointed out, the music rocks!
