How is this one considered a classic or the best?

All the sequels are better.

If it wasn't for the high quality of the original then none of the sequels would've been made, just like with the Halloween series. The only Nightmare film that was guided by the creative force of Wes Craven - the brains behind the whole concept - was the first. That's all you need to know right there. How often does a director come to the rescue of a horror series after the first one sucked? Never?

That's all we need to know to see the franchise is full of Wes Craven jock sniffers

And that's why your last post is on the stranger things board because you have no true opinion of the 80s and you just do what they tell ya

Yea but this one has Johnny Depp in it

Because they are not Freddy Fans they are Wes Craven fans. They only want to acknowledge the Original and New Nightmare but begrudgingly put Dream Warriors in there simply because Wes Craven has a credit so they say 1,3 and 7 but they secretly know Part 4 is really awesome so some of them feintly whisper Part 4 to you but tell you not to tell anybody they said that.

The first is one of the finest horrors in existence. A genuinely dark and inventive film, with effects that are still effective all these years later. The others became teen adventures, rather than straight horror.

All depends what genres you prefer.

I like the sequels as well but the first one was the scariest and most disturbing one, Freddy was pure evil/dark here, and it was very mysterious at this point. When we learned about Freddy's origins in the sequels it lost a little bit of the mystery and suspense.
