Greatest Real MLB Moments?
Well, being a massive Dodgers fan, i'd have to go with Kirk Gibson's game winner, but what would you say?

besides Gibsons homer
Babe Ruth calling his shot
Hank Aaron hitting 715
Willie mays making basket catch at the Polo Grounds
Joe Carters home run to win world series
I gotta throw this in there- Jose Limas complete game shutout of Cardinals in 2004 NLCS. Not the best moment ever, but impressive considering "Lima Time" did this throwing 75mph whiffle balls the entire game.
Do you take drugs Danny?
Out of your list, I'd have to take Joe's shot. That was an absolutely amazing moment, but can't beat Gibby's. And to take a great pitching moment....Josh Beckett in 2003 to clinch the series against the Yanks

jeter diving into stands
jeter backhand flip to nail jeremy giambi
jeter being born
Going back to 2004, Kent's walk off homer. I got so excited, i jumped up and hit my hand on a fast moving fan....pretty darn painful.

Jeter's flip to home plate was COMPLETELY unnecessary and made the play much closer than it had to be. The ball was already on its way (in a more direct line, mind you) to home plate before he grabbed it. Also, although it was a "good get", he didn't have to dive into the stands to make the other play. He did it to be a little dramatic. I'm pretty sure I know which plays you're talking about as ESPN shows these Jeter plays constantly. Eff the Yankees.
shareJim Edmonds walk off homer in Game 6 of the 2004 NLCS was awesome.Another recent one was the Cards vs. Astros game 4 NLCS when Pujols hit that monster HR to take the lead and win the game.Unfortuantly the Cards didn't win the series.
shareYa, Albert hit that ball a ton. I'm an Astros fan also, so I was just blown away.

As a Red's fan, I must interject before anyone brings up Carlton Fisk's game six home run in the '75 World Series by reminding them that the Reds went on to win game 7! Every year around October I have to watch stupid Carlton Fisk willing that home run fair and the announcer never gets around to mentioning that it was all for naught! Sorry Red sox fans, can you tell it's been a while for the Reds (1990)?
"Use the Force, Fluke!"
like real moments? seeing cal ripken hit into a double play his last ab @ the o's last ab as a team at memorial stadium as a little kid. everyone just sorta moaned.
Just put it on the Underhill's tab.
Reggie's mamouth HR that hit the light tower in Detroit in the 1971 all star game.
There is a scene in this movie that copies it~~~!!!!!

I guess every fan has their idea of their greatest MLB moment. As a Cardinal fan, I wouldn't say it was Pujols in 05 vs the Astros or Jimmy E in Game 6 of 04 vs the Astros. My money is on Ozzie Smith in the 85 NLCS when he had a walk off homer to beat the Dodgers in game 5. Ozzie had NEVER hit a homerun from that side of the plate. That was back when Busch Stadium 2 was a dual purpose facility and the fences were a lot farther back. I remember that shot was only like two feet above the wall.... a laser. I guess every era has their moment as well.
shareThe best moment happened in October of 2004 when the Yankees were HUMILIATED by the Boston Red Sox! It wasn't just one great moment, but a moment that culminated into something INCREDIBLE.
PS: This just in, I hate the Yankees!
Jack Morris in the '91 Series. 10 inning complete game shutout in Game 7 for the win. There is baseball outside of the east coast and cali, ya know.
shareOh man oh man oh man, that was great wasn't it. We mustn't forget Smoltz either. He was pitching against his hero and pratically matched him pitch to pitch.
Bill Mazeroski's walk off homer in Game 7 against the Yankees in the '60 World Series was great too. It was the biggest upset in baseball until the Reds swept the A's in 1990
In my opinion, Kirk Gibson's walk-off was the biggest, it was just too. . .perfect.
My favorite, however, is Pudge's tag of JT Snow at the plate to win the 2003 NLDS for my Marlins.
Ya, anything against a Giant is very good....Dem damn Giants!
Ash: Gimme some sugar, baby.
New Personal Favorites:
Paul Konerko's grandslam in the World Series.
I was there with my dad whose been a season ticket holder for years & years just hoping to actually SEE a World Series in Chicago (just the south side though - screw the cubs!). We were rained on for hours. Froze our butts off. Then, SMACK - Grandslam - No more cold, just warmth.
Scott Podsednik's walk off homerun.
As if the granny was enough, a walk off homer by unusual suspect Scotty P. Wow. Sorry Houston, I empathize with you. We Chicagoans know what it's like to have a disappointment every baseball season. At least you got the pennant.
The fact that Scott Podsednik had zero homeruns during the season made it really incredible. Scott's homer was better than Paul's IMO.

Johnny Van derMeer pitching two consecutive no-hitters in 1938 (or '39--don't have my reference book handy to check it) for Cincinnati.
Joe DiMaggio hitting in 56 straight games.
Christy Mathewson throwing three straight shutouts in the 1905 World Series.
Bob Grove pitching 28 and 5 and then 31 and 4 wins/losses in two consecutive seasons. (1930 and '31 if memory serves.)
Bill Mazeroski's World Series-winning home run for Pittsburgh.
Cal Ripken surpassing Lou Gehrig's mark for consecutive games played.
Frank Robinson winning the MVP award in both the National and the American leagues.
Little ancient history here but it makes you appreciate what the old-timers did as well as our contemporary players eh?
im 31, but i hear ya.
what about jackie robinson JUST PLAYING!
rose running over fosse in that all-star game .rose breaking cobbs record
reggie going deep 3 times in the clincher in the 77 world series
maris in 61. if he got an *...........bonds should get an asteroid
everytime mantle hit a 500 ft shot drunk
lol
I vote for the '91 series not just for Morris's 10 innings but also Puckett's 11th inning walk off in game 6.
shareOn a personal level, for me it would be the Phillies finally making the World Series in 1980. Sure some would think winning the Series would be better but that was anticlimactic after probably the greatest LCS of all time.
"If you can do it, it ain't braggin'"-Dizzy Dean
morris was an epic pitcher. and with an epic mustache too.
🌴"I'm not making art, I'm making sushi." Masaharu Morimoto🌴
Beautiful man, absolutely beautiful. As a cardinal fan my whole life- growing up on Ozzie- I only wish I was older than 2 when that occurred.
sharestill learning how to use these boards...I meant for that to be a reply to 007 bond's post about the '85 Ozzie homerun
shareI've got to agree with you on the Ozzie homer. I was only 3 at the time it happened but my father has a tape of the game which I still watch to this day. Another favorite of mine would be Ted Williams hitting a homer in the All-Star Game in 1954 I think it was but I probably have the year wrong.
We'll roll the old chariot along...
by the quotes heard right after the moment-
1- "the giants win the pennant!! the giants win the pennant!!""
2- "i don't believe what i've just seen!"
3- "For the first time in 86 years, the Red Sox have won baseball's world championship. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?"
the ultimate moment in baseball history, easily is-
"It gets through Buckner! Here comes Knight and the Mets win it!"
5. Josh Beckett's shutout in game 6 of the 2003 WS.
4. Luis Gonzalez' walk-off game-winning single in game 7 of the 2001 WS.
3. Dave Roberts' stolen base in game 4 of the 2004 ALCS.
2. Alex Rodriguez' interference with Bronson Arroyo's tag in game 6 of the 2004 ALCS.
(The smug look on Jeter's face as he "scored" from first with fist held high was priceless. Sorry, buddy, cheating is a no-no...back to first you go).
1. Jack Morris' 10-inning shutout in game 7 of the 1991 WS.
I am a Red Sox fan and, as you can tell from my list, I love watching the Yankees choke.
I have a soft spot for Morris' game 7 because the 1991 WS was the first one I watched in entirety; I was 10 years old.
all good. here is some that dont think have been mentioned.
1.pete rose running over that catcher in the all star game was awesome
2.pete rose breaking ty cobbs record (jeez reds fan)
3. jackie robinson PLAYING
4.reggie going deep 3 times in that world series game in 77?!
5. everytime mantle hit a 500 ft homerun half-drunk
6. tommy lasorda in the baseball bunch lol
7. that pitcher in the 70's who threw a no-hitter while on lsd
8. maris in 61 if he got an * bonds should get an asteroid!!!
I'm not saying this was the best moment ever, but it sure was cool to watch.
Remember in the 2001 All-Star game how loud and long the cheers for Cal Ripken Jr. were right before his first at-bat? He had to step out of the batter's box to acknowledge the fans because he didn't want the game to be delayed. First pitch--Gone. That place went nuts and I got goose-bumps. He also homered the night he tied as well as the night he broke Lou Gherig's record. Oh yeah, in the All-Star game, as he was walking to the plate the theme song to, appropriately enough, "The Natural" was playing.
Three of my favorite baseball moments:
Jackie Robinson's number retired forever
Red Sox win the World Series
Baseball returns to DC
October 16, 1969 Baltimore second baseman Davey Johnson flies out to leftfielder Cleon Jones and the NY Mets win the World Series! No greater thrill for me.
Amazin! Amazin! Amazin!
Lou Gehrig Day at Yankee Stadium with the "Luckiest Man Alive" speech
Jack Morris in Game 7 for the Twins against the Braves
Reggie Jackson's three-homer game against the Dodgers in the 1977 Series
Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World"
Ted Williams' last at-bat
I've been an Angles fan since the team was created. Yes, pity me, but their World Series win was simply the best.
Pete Hutter: You touched my piece. NOBODY touches my piece!
As a Braves fan, I have to say last game in the 1992 playoffs. The Braves were ahead early in the series and it looked certain they were going to the World Series. I had tickets to to see the Braves in game 1 of the World Series and was sure that the Braves would go. They fell behind in the series and the Pirates forced a game 7 in Atlanta. Smoltz was pitching in game seven and the Braves were losing late in the game. The Braves were down and Fracisco Cabrerra single in Sid Bream from second base. Bream was a slow runner with bad knees and barely made it in a close slide. This won the game and the Braves went to the world series. I got to see them win in game 1, but unfortunately the Blue Jays won the series in 6 games. Bummer.
shareMost def Gibson's homer. (Though I wasn't exactly cogniscent at the time, as I was born in 1988).
Best moments as a Tribe fan:
Sandy Alomar's game-winning homer in the 97 All Star Game at Jacobs Field.
TonY Fernandez's series clinching homer in game 6 of the 97 ALCS.
Omar Vizquel's diving backhand in game 6 of the 97 WS. Simply incredible, probably the best play I've ever seen.
Albert Belle's walk off grand slam against Lee Smith in 95. Damn.
*Sigh*. Maybe ONE of these years we will make the playoffs again!
[deleted]
Yeah that was an amazing game. Unfortunately I was only 7 at the time and not allowed to stay up to watch it!
Approximate number of movies I've seen in the theater: 68.
Nolan Ryan striking out Roberto Alomar to close out his 7TH NO HITTER!
share'Aaron Boone deep to left... and the Yankees are going to the World Series!'
'Ground ball, up along first, behind the bag... gets by Buckner, here comes Knight and the Mets win it!'
'Ball hit to left, Yaztremski will not get it, it's a home run! a three-run home run for Bucky Dent and the Yankees lead it by a score of 3-2.'
[deleted]
Both David Right's and Ozzie Smith's barehanded diving catches.
DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak
Pete Rose breaking Ty Cobb's all time hit record.
Cannot forget the Red Sox coming back from 3 games down to beat the Yankees. It was even better having won the World Series.
David Ortiz's Game Winners
1. Game Winning Home Run against Angels to win 2004 ALDS
2. Game Winning Home Run against Yankees in Game 4 of 2004 ALCS
3. Game Winning Single against Yankees in Game 5 of 2004 ALCS
These Last two are my favorites. I will never forget staying up to watch the 2004 ALCS games on school nights, and then going to school the next day barely awake. I swear I walked part of the halls with my eyes closed.
I started talking some sense to him, but he's not up to a dollar yet.
It's kind of sad that a few of you Red Sox fans' favorite baseball moments are moments of the Yankees failing. But, I guess that makes since, since there are so few moments where the Red Sox are succeeding, so might as well root against the Yanks, right? I guess what's even more sad is that one or two Yankee fans just posted moments where the Red Sox failed. That's just wrong. Red Sox fans may have an excuse for their favorite moments to be Yankee failure, but us Yankee fans have a larger pool of success to draw from, and shouldn't be worried about those Red Sox.
Anyways, here are my personal favorite moments:
1. Jim Leyritz's HR in the 1996 World Series
2. Derek Jeter's walkoff in the 2001 WS to make him Mr. November.
3. Aaron Boone's walkoff in the 2003 ALCS.
Anytime the mystique of this simple game transcends reality and in some cases even the imagination of movie scripts!
Best Examples in My Opinion Are:
1. Kirk Gibson's Homerun...I mean I couldn't talk for about a half hour...it was like I saw a UFO land in my backyard. It was that unbelievable to me.
2. Boston finally winning...and coming back after being down 3-0...After near a century. It was the only possible way for it to happen and is in keeping with the spirit of the martyrdom/penitence of the largely catholic based Red Sox Fan! I bought pizza and a couple of rounds for all of the people at my local bar in Savannah. If I remember right there was a red hue around the moon that night and Schilling's Bloody Red Sock! Can't write that stuff in movies cause an audience wouldn't believe it!
3. The Angels unlikely Game 6 comeback to beat the Giants (and Bonds!) in 2002 and capture their first ever World Series. I remember listening in my car praying for a comeback and that team of misfits/quirks just wouldn't stop. They kept getting unlikely hits by non-superstars (Erstad/Spiezio) allowing them to pull off in my opinion one of the greatest comebacks ever. I was in tears.
4. Recently the Red Sox hit 4 Homeruns in a row @ Fenway and I felt the same as with Gibson...speechless...1..then 2..then 3...and then 4..It was like there was voodoo being practiced at the stadium that night. I know the Dodgers did it last year but I didn't see that live on TV...This was incredible.
5. Kevin Mitchell catches fly ball with his bare hand! It was a beautiful catch and looked like a magic trick.
I can't remember the year, but Pedro Martinez threw a perfect 9 innings, 27 up-27 down. Then he came out and gave up a homer in the tenth.
Who the hell these days even throws 7-8 innings, let alone a full game of perfection. Too bad the Expos couldn't get one damn run to give him the win!

George Brett's magical run at batting 400 in 1980 for the Royals.
Also the Jack Morris performance is very special also.
They made a movie about the 2004 Red Sox
I started talking some sense to him, but he's not up to a dollar yet.
