Footloose hater did not grow up in the 80's

Most of those who complain that the movie is bad are those who didn't grow up in the 80's. If you know well the era of the 80's you would appreciate the movie.

The 80's era is the peak of dance era when 50's, 60's and 70's dance steps all aggregated into the 80's. all modern dances from the late 90's up to today can be traced back to the dance steps that was popularized in the 80's. The street dance that you see now wherein dancers spin their heads on the floor or wiggle their bodies on the ground is just reminiscent of the 80's strut dance as what was featured on the prom scene in the movie, just to give you an example.

The movie is actually cheesy if
1) you are not from the 80's
2) you just saw it for the first time today
3) if you are from this current teen generation

you cannot appreciate the era if you havent experienced it. Of course everything will be cheesy, embarrassing and quite awkward in the movie if you view it now because its peak and time have already passed. The theme and spirit of the movie is not anymore felt today precisely because it was in the 80's.

Footloose is a classic. No other remake can capture it. It is a movie that captured most of the beat, rhythm, dance and nostalgia of what 80's was all about: simple, clean fun, safe and no crazy gun totting student who would just shot anyone out of nowhere.

Its bad enough that you didn't live during the golden era of the 80's so don't make yourself feel more bad in hating this wonderful classic movie where men are real men and not afraid to dance. In this generation, if you see a man dance like ren do or if you see two men teaching each other how to dance, people would actually label it as gay. In the 80's there is no such label. No malice. because people in that era just want to have fun!!!!!

Nuff said to all haters! I feel sorry for your generation! Garbage and trashy music and movies!

People may not like the music or the dancing but this movie is more about people communicating to bridge gaps.

At the beginning when Bacon and Penn run into each other and have a few words Penn's character chooses to laugh and make a friend rather than to act like a hard ass.

Bacon could have been more aggressive with Singer's character but he chooses to actually get to know her and in respecting her actually shows respect for himself and the parents.

The man who owned the Mill judged the Bacon character by his hard work and his relationship with him. So when Bacon needed help he put his Mill on the line because of the way Bacon conducted himself.

Speaking to the council and then Lithgow shows a kid who is trying to think it through and bridge a gap. Lithgow shows him respect and because of the way the Bacon character handles himself makes it easier for the Preacher to show him and the other kids some trust and instead of standing fully in their way lets them do their thing.

And I am not surprised for all the praise for Lithgow and Bacon as actors but the roll of the mother played by Dianne Wiest , she is a three time Oscar nominee who took two Best Supporting Actress Oscars home. Not to mention Golden Globe and Emmy wins amongst others.

There are a lot of good lessons in this movie if your open to them.

Beedlebard, I agree with you. After your original post, never explain. Your friends won't need it and your detractors won't listen to you anyways.

Love Footloose, and I grew up in the 70s and 80s. This and Flashdance. Classic 80's movies.

Kudos.

I was born in '89, but seriously grew up like I was in the 80s and 90s all the way til I was 16. We only had one box tv, a Windows 98 computer, a VHS player, and an Atari, we mostly only listened to oldies and the radio and watched old movies, so I know the feeling of the 80s thanks to my parents who were teens in the 80s and loved it.

The thing is, with this movie, the whole religious aspects just made it irritating. I LOVE cheesy 80s movies like Girls Just Want To Have Fun and 16 Candles and whatnot. This movie just didn't have the feeling of fun like all those other movies did.

Your attitude is horrible. You make yourself look bad for putting down people for calling this movie cheesy. If we don't like it, tough titties. If you like it, well then, good for you! Like what you like and we'll like what we like. This is coming from someone who has a bunch of favorite movies that get terrible ratings, but the atmosphere and the mood of the movie is just fun.

Honestly, you don't sound very happy. I can understand nostalgia and missing the good times, cause even I feel that way with how movies and the radio and tv and people online are all crappy, but you shouldn't let that ruin everything for you and put you in a bad mood. Sure a lot of kids of now-a-days are spoiled brats who like horrible garbage, but not everyone is a bad person because they didn't like Footloose or "get it".

I was born in 1990 and I LOVE Footloose, Breakfast Club, anything 80s pretty much. Those movies didn't have to try too hard to be anything other than what it was, great movies with a story.
I can't stand the over sexualized crap that we have today.

I took pride that Footloose didn't have a remake but when I heard that the dreaded news I was disappointed. Then I watched the remake and was even further disappointed. Just another over sexualized crap.

Needless to say, I completely agree with you, Beedlebard.. Just not the part of having to live in the 80s to like or know the era. I love that era. It was more than the bad fashion and hair style.
