*The Bus Skid...

Does anyone else find the scene where the bus skids in the opening chase out of place?

It just seems like they put it in there because it was a cool stunt, but why did it skid, the truck & cop cars are nowhere in the shot ? *

The entire intro has little relevance to the film

I agree. The way it was edited made it appear unrelated. I believe it was written into the script to slide the bus, but seems arbitrary to write that in.

Also interesting, that same bus skid stunt was used in several other action movies in the mid-late 80s. I cant recall specific films but I think they did it in 48 hours and Red Heat, Lethal Weapon, and a few others too. Like it was a thing or something: 'we perfected this cool new stunt so now we need to put it in every movie' lol

Also applies to the 'sliding a motobike under a truck' stunt that seems to crop up in a few 80s action movies.

Yes good point. That one was used heavily too.

Now that I think about it, I guess its a thing in every era that producers overuse new stunts they are proud of. I remember in the 70s there was a trend of jumping cars over stuff. Seems every 70s movie and tv show had a scene where a bridge was out and the car just jumped over it lol

Taken to its extreme in The Man with the Golden Gun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90Qqbf9VG7Q&t=5m32s
