There are so many characters in this that I love most of them, but everybody must have a favourite and a least favourite. Mine are
Fav: Herr Flick
L FAV: Mimi Labonq
Favorite: Absolutely Herr Flick. I was very disappointed of all the episodes that he wasn't in.
Least favorites: Crabtree, Leclerc, and the two British airmen (damn they were annoying - but in a funny way, though :))
Favourite characters:( I don't have only one) Gruber,Crabtree,Herr Flick,Madame Fanny and Captain Bertorelli. Gruber is so endearing the way he crushes on Rene. The funniest thing about Crabtree is not his surprise "Good Moaning!" but the fact that he has no idea the effect he has on everyone else.Herr Flick--loved him in the beginning but since von Smallhausen came on,he grew increasingly duller and duller esp when they started making use of completely ridiculous disguises. MADAME FANNY!!! Edith, why do I have,in my bed,a duck?" I love the way she talks.Captain Bertorelli-"Whadda mistake-a to make-a" Just the way he talks, also.
I liked Hans and Fairfax and Carstairs a bit but not so much as to put them on this list.
Least favourite characters:Rene, von Smallhausen,Mimi LaBonq,Maria and the second Mr. Leclerc. I never got used to Mr. Alphonse either. His dicky ticker and tricky truss bored me sometimes..Rene's cowardice put me off,a lot of the time.von Smallhausen is just an idiot,Mimi's inclusion was a waste although since they already had Yvette as the sexy French maid, they couldn't continue with Maria..more than one would have been too much. Mr. Leclerc no. 2 could never replace the original Mr. Leclerc,"Psst,it is I,Leclerc."
This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time.
Favourite Captain Bertorelli (but only as played by Gavin Richards)
Least Favourite Madame Fanny played by Rose Hill.
Most Fancied... Michelle of the Resistance! :)
Favourite: Lt. Gruber, Mme Edith, Bertorelli (Gavin Richards}, Colonel, Von Klinkerhoffen, Herr Flick, Von Smallhausen, Helga, Yvette, Mme Fanny.
Least: Mimi and the communist resistance.
Well, they all had a part to play. Would have to go with Hans (Sam Kelly). Have since seen him in Midsomer and New Tricks playing more or less sinister parts - always a treat to watch. Least fav - maybe Maria - did not add much to story. The "salival" or "guttural" pronunciations suggests she would come from somewhere near Belgium. BTW there really is a place called Nouvion, on the Meuse river in the Ardennes, and not that far from German or Belgian borders. Once visited Karlsruhe-Baden-Baden (Black Forest, that is not far from Strasbourg, France) where German locals spoke fluent French, so can see where the Germans could converse with the Nouvion crowd.
shareThere is indeed a Nouvion in northern France.
shareFavorites: René, herr Flick, Helga, von Smallhausen, Hans Geering, von Strohm, Yvette, Maria, Leclerc, Michelle and the girls from the resistance, Fanny
Least favorites: Mimi, Edith, Alphonse, Fairfax and Castairs
Couldn't narrow it down to just one for both sides, sorry.
Favorite: Tough one, but I'm going with Gruber. Crabtree is funnier but he got so many killer lines to work with. Guy Siner had to play a closet gay nazi(!) and did it to perfection.
Least favorite: Maria. The character was pointless and the actress just tried too hard with everything. Her acting was way over the top and her French accent was atrocious. Every R of hers sounded like she was hocking a 2 pound loogie. "It is Michelle of the HCHHRRHHCHHCRRRResistance!"
Favourite: Gruber. The only Nazi who can genuinely be described as adorable beyond words.
Least favourite: Denise Laroque. I never quite managed to warm up to her.
Remember that Gruber, Hans and maybe even Colonel von Strohm probably weren't Nazis at heart. They had to pretend to be to keep their jobs. Gruber probably is my favorite as well.
And my least favorites are the British airmen (they were so dorky without having any charm at all) and those girls from the Communist Resistance (they were so pointless and boring).
Intelligence and purity.
Fav Gruber, Herr Flick Michelle
L Fav: Mimi and replacement actors in later series
My favourite was the policeman who spoke bad french. My leqst favourite was the Italian officer who i found totally unfunny.
