A thought just hit me: 'WarGames' would be a good option for a remake. Considering how far technology has progressed since 1983 (e.g., the Internet, laptops, amazing computer graphics), the possibilities seem almost limitless for a remake. The only question now is which actors/actresses would be right to play the title roles? Sorry if this topic has already been discussed.

For example, I really doubt that anyone could "accidentally" hack into anything now. The only reason it worked the first time was a random dialer.
Exactly, plus the whole movie works because it takes place in the early days of personal computers, a time when hardly anyone outside of government or big business had a computer with a phone line attached. Because it takes place at such a time, the idea that David could get into a top level government computer like WOPR using a back door is somewhat believable but not at all believable today.

shareI call BS on that 4 Billion $ figure. An apple cost about 600$ in 1984 (a Lisa was like 10K$), only upper middle class families could afford them. Most businesses didn't even have computers, they still used price guns and price tags.

The idea that people cannot get into such computers because many people have personal computers is kind of silly. Go wardrive the Pentagon. ;)

Ok, let's see you get into a high end government computer like WOPR now using a back door. That was my point. Not that it can't be done, just that it would be WAY WAY harder now. Remember, all he had to do was input one password "joshua" that's it. Now you'd have to go through many many layers of encryption and security levels. Even the programmers he visits earlier in the movie think he wouldn't be able to get in using the front door and that was in the 80s. So yes, it could be done but there isn't a chance you could figure it out in a week like he did.
shareIt's not "way way" harder actually. The only thing different is that now you write a program or design a website that gets the inside technicians or operators to hand their login credentials over to you instead of you having to guess them.

shareNo. A remake will absolutely suck and will be a total insult to the original. It has been discussed to death. The alleged sequel that was released (direct to DVD) a few years ago was a total bomb and killed any positive thought that could be had for a remake.
Hollywood needs to leave good movies alone and come up with some original ideas for a change.

While it doesn't NEED a remake, you are correct that this is the type of movie that a remake is sensible for. The original is not that great, so it could stand to be improved upon, and modern possibilities could make for interesting new situations. Still, I am in the camp that remakes are for creators that are admitting they have nothing original to say.
