Who agrees this is Cronenberg's best movie?

I found this one better than his other two masterpieces, Dead Ringers and The Fly. It feels more dark and gritty compared to the more "hollywood" bigger budget feel of the other too. Videodrome scared me a lot more than The Fly and Dead Ringers and I felt it had a much stronger message. Anybody else agree?

P.S. What a great, haunting ending that has been instilled in my brain forever

The dialogue, the sterility, and the acting. I think that A History of Violence is Cronenberg's worst film .. easily!

I have always loved Elias Koteas' and Holly Hunter's performances. I thought that it was a near perfect film.

That's a pretty hard call to make...but, yeah; even though *The Brood* kind of crowds *Videodrome* for the "best of" spot, all in all I think that*Videodrome* is the more innovative of the two, with a "chewier"implied message - and since they're both rather compulsively watchable and *really* scary, those aspects give *V'drome* a definite edge.

It is indeed his best, and his cleverest.

It's definitely my favorite Cronenberg movie. I find it compelling.

Videodrome was the peak of a really good run of films by Cronenberg. Shivers, Rabid, The Brood, Scanners and then Videodrome. No wonder i became a fan!

Best work since then has been The Fly, Dead Ringers, Crash, Existenz and A History of Violence.

Videodrome is a great metaphor and a very interesting and original movie, but my personal favorite is Dead Zone.

Might be, it's the only movie by Cronenberg that I have in my dvd collection at least.

videodrome and scanners are my 2 faves by DC.
i hope and pray he does something freaky again and at least half as good as videodrome.

The Fly is not a masterpiece. Dead Ringers and Crash are two fantastic movies but Videodrome win the match

reply

Agreed. This is definitely my favourite Cronenberg film and one of my favourite films of all time. Shocked to see no one has mentioned Eastern Promises on here though. It's my favourite next to Videodrome
