This movie is garbage, anyone agree?

Kim Basinger is bad, Sean Connerey phones in his performance, the villians are good but the pacing is slow and boring, the effects are terrible, not too mention the cheesy scene where Bond plays the video game against the villian which shocks you if you lose. Instead of a casino he had a big arcade room? what the hell?! What was so bad about Thunderball anyway? Leave well enough alone. I would've rather have had George Lazenby in this one. Also, it dosen't even have the gunbarrell credits!!!! The Motorcycle chase was cool, but instead of the Bond theme, you get a lame elevator music jazz score playing over it. If this WAS an official 007, I'd put it in the same class as Moonraker or Diamonds are Forever. CRAP tastic

Nah, I enjoyed the flick, although it does lag at the end. (But so does Thunderball.) Connery was in good form throughout, and I'm glad he got one extra Bond movie.

reply

I thought it was OK when I rewatched it the other day.

It's better than some of the other films in the series, including Thunderball, and Octopussy (its rival in 1983)

reply

Yeah, I saw NSNA again recently because Flix showed it a few times as part of their Bond marathon last month. I guess this means NSNA is now part of the 007 broadcast package being offered by MGM (since they now own the film)? If so, I'm glad because there is no reason this film should be banished or kept apart from the other movies.

reply

Yeah, MGM now own the rights to distribute this film. They put it out on DVD. So I see no reason to ignore it. It also stars a proper James Bond actor (Connery) for one last time.

reply

Connery wasn't really bad in this movie, he wasn't really good either though.

Thunderball was a way better movie though, the story of NSNA is really poor, and the special effects where dramatically bad. This movie gave me the feeling as if it was quickly shot and thrown together in about 2 days time. Some of the humor in this I liked, but it almost became a comedy movie, a parody of a 007 movie. Especially with the story done as if MI6 was a bankrupt, amateuristic organisation and bond was an over the hill relic. And Q was a bitter little man fooling around with secondhand stuff.

Too bad, with the actors they had they could have made a way better movie.
My final conclusion is that this is one of the worst 007 movies ever, even using someone else as bond couldn't have made this movie better.
Cheesy, cheap, and totally useless.

I still believe however that Sean Connery is a great actor, he just made a mistake doing this.

reply

Some of the film is ok while some is awful like Q acting like bond is his best buddy when that has never been the case, also q's lines about how good it is to have bond back hoping there will be lots if sex etc made me cringe also rowen Atkinson is awful too

reply

Where to start, the movie has the most inappropriate film score, it's poorly edited and although Douglas Slocombe is a good cinematographer, it's hard to make the crappy locations, costumes and generally poor production design look good. Who decided that arcade games and a video game confrontation were good ideas?

Connery is actually pretty good in this, much better then Diamonds are Forever, at least he is in shape but his toupee is awful.

The movie just has an overall cheapness to it.

reply

Complete and total garbage. The worst Bond film ever. Everything sucked.
Thunderball, in my opinion, was the very best Bond film.

reply

I thought it better than Thunderball. The underwater scenes were not as protracted and boring. And you could see what was taking place in them. Domino and Largo IMO are much better portrayed here. Fatima Blush and Fiona Volpe, I'd call about equal. Both are strong villainesses.

It's also a better send off for Connery than Diamonds are Forever. That , I think, is one of the weakest movies in the series. It verged right on the edge of self parody, and should have been a proper follow up to OHMSS. Bond's wife was just murdered in front of him. After the pre credits sequence, Bond just forgets all about her.

reply

The video game scene is, by far, in my opinion, the worst thing I've seen in a Bond film.

It seemingly goes on forever but the worst part for me was the music. Not having the original score really takes a lot away from this. At the time as a kid I thought it was cool that Sean Connery came back though.
