"Never Say Never Again" vs. "Octopussy"

1983 was a strange year for Bond fans, with two 007 movies to choose from. Which one did you prefer?

I enjoyed them both at the time they were in the theaters but watching them decades later, NSNA definately gets my vote. I find Octopussy incredibly boring now.

Never Say Never, and the character of Fatima Blush.

Never Say Never Again drags a bit for me, but I find Octopussy to be consistently entertaining. I consider it to be one of Roger Moore's better Bond films, whereas Never is one of Connery's weakest.

Let's see... Octopussy had an amazing AcroJet opening sequence, interesting chases in the streets of India and Karl Marx Stadt, two double-O's dressed as clowns, an in-flight, outside-the-fuselage plane fight, and lots of hijinks and gunfire on a circus train.

It also featured Louis Jourdan and Steven Berkoff in a nasty villain two-fer, and taught the masses about Faberge eggs as well as the art of the triple-cross.

Oh yeah, there's also that troupe of physically fit, female ninja acrobats.

Never Say Never Again had a totally forgettable opening sequence, a totally memorable introduction of Kim Basinger, Barbara Carrera making dangerous, feisty Latinas popular 30 years before Sofia Vergara, a very well done motorcycle chase, a pretty good horse chase, a holographic hybrid of Risk and Electronic Battleship, and a decent score for not being able to use the James Bond theme.

I'd say it's easily the inferior of the two movies. Add to that the fact that it was a remake and thus loses points for originality, and its...

Game, Set, and Match: Octopussy.

I don't think N.S.N.A. is better than OCTOPUSSY. I think it's less bad.

The redeeming parts of Octopussy number the same as the redeeming parts of NSNA.

The three parts of Octopussy that jump the shark are the Tarzan yell, Siiiiiiitaaaa, and being able to put on perfect clown makeup in 30 seconds.

I have to say Vijay helps. "We've got company!" "Don't worry, this is a company car!" Wheelie...and takes off.
Maud Adams is luscious. Louis Jordan was sauve and evil.

NSNA was good for Barbara Carrera, the Motorcycle, and Connery. That was about it.

Poor Barbara Carrera had to carry this movie...the villainy, the eye-candy and the unfortunate demise. She was also a walking, talking fashion show. Maud Adams doesn't compare in any way.
